I recently switched my non-o-1-year extension based on retirement A one-year extension based on marriage The multiple entry permit That I had on the retirement extension Had not expired yet Does the Multiple entry permit Still continue to its originally expiry date Does it expire when I changed to the marriage extension and therefore need to get a new multiple entry permit
Answer summary
The validity of a multiple entry permit is tied to the type of extension it was issued under. When switching from a retirement-based extension to a marriage-based extension in Thailand, it is advisable to obtain a new re-entry permit. While some users have successfully re-entered the country using their old re-entry permits after changing extensions, immigration officials typically recommend obtaining a new permit to ensure compliance with regulations and avoid potential complications.

I mean seeing as you can only apply for a new extension a maximum of 45 days before your old extension expired the longest you'd get trying to use the old re-entry permit would be what 6 weeks?

Just buy a new one good until the marriage extension runs out, that way you're 100% sure you can get out/back in and not run yourself off the rails

This topic comes up once in a while and this is what I've been told at the immigration office AND at passport control stamping back into the country

Re-entry permits are tied to the extension you got them under, when you apply for a new extension, you need a new re-entry permit, EVEN if you're going to leave come back before the old re-entry permit expired (because you can apply for an extension a month before your old one runs out)

I'd say don't chance it, get a new re-entry permit once you go back to get the year extension inked in.

I will relate that a person who did apply for his yearly extension 45 days early got it, then left the country was able to return on his old re-entry permit which was still valid when he came back into the country BUT passport control told him about the "re-entry tied to extensions, get a new extension, get a new re-entry" concept they usually run under.

I will leave you to decide what you want to do..
