Hello, what happens when you do not receive your 60 day tourist visa in time before departure for Thailand?

(I understand that I am able to enter on visa exempt and renew for an additional 30 days. I was planning on a stay of 86 days.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you do not receive your 60-day tourist visa before your departure to Thailand, you can enter the country under the visa exemption rule. After entering, if your eVisa is approved, you will need to print the PDF they send you. Then, you can exit and re-enter Thailand, presenting this printout along with your passport to obtain the corresponding stamp for your visa.

you fly in visa exempt, then if/when your eVisa is approved you print the PDF that they email you (as that IS your visa) exit/re-enter the country presenting that print out along with your passport to the officer when you stamp in and you will get stamped in on that visa

thank you for your reply. According to the Thai Embassy in Paris today, they will not approve/issue the E-visa when they see, based on the flight info you downloaded when applying, that you have already departed for Thailand. Lesson learned.

makes sense (y)

Most people actually do get the eVisas approved, only a few were notified that they needed to submit NEW flight info if they wanted to get the visa as their flights had passed.

My advice would be apply early enough for the eVisa that you have plenty of time to wait out the approval period before your flight.

A tourist visa is valid for 3 months <- meaning you have 3 months after it's issued to ENTER thailand on it and get stamped in for 60 days.

So you can apply really early for those visas.
