TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Chiang Mai with a re-entry permit, ensure you complete certain immigration formalities. First, fill out a TM30 form within 24 hours of your arrival to update your address. Keep your departure card and 90-day reporting card in your passport. Note that specific immigration offices, like in Chiang Mai, may enforce TM30 regulations strictly, so it's advisable to handle your registration directly rather than relying solely on your landlord.

Okay, ENOUGH. I don't care how long you've managed to live in this country or WHAT you think about the TM.30 system and its increased usage by immigration offices.

You want to know how it works read this post and watch the attached video. You want to know IF your immigration office is hard core about it or not GO to your immigration office and ask about it

You fill in the re-entry permit number on the arrival/departure card under visa number, check if you get the same Admitted to Stay date as you had before and the next day you visit Immigration to update your address if you go back to the same address or make a new address registration if you stay on a new address. If you stay in a hotel/guesthouse you ask if they make the address registration and ask a print screen on the report. It is nothing new, not a new law and I have no clue what a credit card sized passport will do for you at Immigration.

, if you go to Kodak with your passport they will reduce your details page and visa page down to credit card size and laminate it for you, this should be all you need. Black and white is 30bt.

that b/s credit card sized picture from a copy shop has NOTHING to do with filing a TM.30

This must be new rules because in the past immigration at the airport stamped my passport and I didn't need to do anything until reporting for my 90 days.

When I go for my 90 days all I need is my passport because I have a barcode in my passport and all they do is scan it.

@Brooke *****
, Ok thank you

@Brooke *****
just looked at Google, TM 30, in the past I have had to produce my house book, but now I am in their computer as I said before, but next time I go to immigration I will ask.

Thanks for your advice.

TM30 is a must if you leave Thailand...I never did mine for over 10 years...when they checked I was fined.... 1700baht...it has always been there...now they are enforcing it...good luck

@Brooke *****
I don't know what a TM 30 is, I have lived here for 14 years, in the same condo , I used to fill out a TM47 for my 90 days but I don't have to do that now I am in their computer and have a barcode in my passport which they scan.

I am in and out of immigration in less than 2 minutes for my 90 days report.

I am not saying once you return there are TM30 concerns...BUT if you don't do it they will nail you when you return to immigration again. It is your responsibility to get it stamped...I would not rely on a landlord to do it. Best to get your own TM30 slip in your passport...good luck

Chiangmai Immigration enforces TM30 strictly more than other offices.
Brooke ******
Fòr all those concerned....it is best to keep updated...departure card, 90 day card and TM30 card IN YOUR PASSPORT at all times. These are important

when you come back into thailand you need to go to the immigration office and update a form called a TM.30. You have to do it within 24 hours of getting back to where you stay.

Thanks so much

Gary. Yes. Write the number of the re-entry stamp on the TM6 card. If you don't do it, the immigration officer will do it for you or tell you to do it.
Dominic *****
Well, Chiangmai Immigration is just next to the Airport, so I would advise that you plan to drop by after you land if you arrive early enough in the day. Otherwise, you have until 1600 hrs of the next calendar day to go back there. TM30 section does not close for holidays of any kind, even Songkran.

Hi Tod. My first 're entry as well. On the TM6 arrival card, do we write the re entry number in the visa number space ?
Tod *********
So once you get back head on over to the immigration office when they're open and file (OR update) a TM.30.

Nothing to do regarding to re-entry permit. Others are usual things TM 30, etc.
