Dear all,I have a question: The last day of my work visa is April 8th,so when I go to cancel it on that day, does it mean I must leave Thailand on the same day? If I want to stay in Thailand 2~3 months longer, what can I do? How could I change the visa type? Thanks for every kind reply!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The last day of your work visa indicates you must leave Thailand by that date, usually by 11:59 PM. However, you may be eligible for a COVID-19 extension before March 30, which could allow you to stay an additional 60 days. If you apply for an extension and are denied, you will receive a stamp giving you 7 days to leave, but be aware that you cannot convert this denied extension into another visa type.

Yes, you must leave by 11:59PM *THE SAME DAY*. *AS OF TODAY*, the last day they are selling a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is March 30.

IF you apply for another extension of stay (which you don't qualify for), you will be an extension of stay denied stamp. This will give you 7 days to leave Thailand. You can not convert an extension of stay denied stamp to another type of stamp.

technically yes - usually they give you 1-2 weeks more - but before 31. march you can extend for Covid-19 extension- that might get extended as well

Thank you very much! If I want to extend for covid visa, is it necessary to cancel work visa first and then get the tourist visa, and then apply for covid extension? If I can't get the letter from my embassy, could I get the extension?

you can't get a tourist visa in country.

As things stand today the Covid extension finishes on 30 March, so if you want to use it you need to cancel your work visa before this date then apply for this extension.

Alternatively see if they announce an extension again but this probably won't be announced until very close to 30 March itself.
