Hey guys, I'm currently in Thailand with a SETV. I have already extended it by 30 days and must leave the kingdom on 08th of January. I want to go to Kuala Lumpur or Penang and return after 3-4 days. So my question, can I easily get a VOA or can I even apply for a SETV again? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a SETV, which has been extended, and is planning a short trip to Kuala Lumpur or Penang. The discussion highlights that the user can apply for a new tourist visa in either location or return to Thailand using the 30-day Visa Exempt Entry. However, obtaining a Visa on Arrival (VOA) depends on the user's nationality, as only certain countries are eligible for this visa.

You can apply in KL or in Penang for a new tourist visa, or just come back into Thailand using the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry. It depends on how long you want to stay.

Just to make sure we are clear:

VOA: Only a handful of countries allow for this visa, and lasts for 15 days..

Visa exception: MOST countries fall into this group, and lasts for 30 days. You do NOT get a visa on a visa exception.

What is your country of origin? VOA is only available for 21 countries.

If you qualify for a SETV, sure. There's no promises you'll get it though. If you want to be here for 30 days, use the visa exempt. If you want to be here longer, get a SETV.

Okay. Can I apply a SETV again?

You won't get a VOA, you'll get a 30 day visa exampt. Every time you cross the border by land, you'll get a 30 day visa exempt, and you can do this twice in a calendar year. The calendar resets on January 1.

Do you have a recent history of multiple use of tourist visas or visa exemption on arrival into Thailand?

You should not have a problem. Choose wisely the Consulate in neighboring country if you are seeking a new Tourist Visa. And have the 20,000 Thai baht or equal in cash upon arrival along, address of stay, and be prepared to show your flight outbound from Thailand at end of stay.

Good luck.
