Hi there. I'm currently on my first tourist visa (2 months + 1 month extension) and was hoping to go on a visa run to Penang to get another tourist visa. I was told that embassies in neighboring countries won't me grant another tourist visa within one year. Did anyone have this experience recently? TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a new tourist visa in Penang, Malaysia, after holding a tourist visa issued in Vietnam. Community responses indicate that while rules may differ between embassies, some may allow an additional tourist visa if the prior one was obtained from a different country, particularly if it hasn't exceeded the one-per-year limit.

Thank you! Although I didn't get my current visa back home but in Vietnam. So if I understand correctly it should be fine as long as I don't make the request at an embassy that already granted me a TR?
The rule will vary by embassy, but I believe some of them are only allowing 1 "additional" tourist visa per year. So the one you got from home probably won't affect your ability to get another one in Penang
