What should I be aware of when traveling to Myanmar on a student visa for a business meeting?

Hi, I am studying a Bachelors degree on a student visa (third yearly extension). I am starting my internship in a small import export firm and my supervisor wants to take me on a meeting in Myanmar for two days. Anything that could make this difficult? Anything i should be aware of? Just get the reentry stamp and I'm good?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, studying on a student visa, intends to travel to Myanmar for a business meeting linked to their internship. Key points from the discussion include the importance of securing a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand to retain their visa status. Additionally, COVID-19 documentation may be required for entry into Myanmar, such as proof of vaccination or a negative test result, depending on the airline. Participants also suggested verifying the legitimacy of the meeting and being prepared for potential health requirements, showing faith in the user's capabilities to successfully manage the trip.

BTW if you're on a student visa granted through a university (which it sounds like you are) why the yearly extensions? I thought you'd receive a visa covering the whole length of your degree, which I assume is 4 years?

no, i get a normal non imm ed visa valid for three months which i can then extend on a yearly bases. I am using this visa (and it's extensions) since entering university in 2019. You don't get a visa that is valid for four years because they want proof of actual progress whenever i have to make my extension. For example grades and confirmation of payment sof students fees etc

That's crazy. Might explain why America recently stopped issuing visas for the full length of studies to Thai students and now they're required to renew them on an annual basis. I'm not sure whether Thai students are allowed to renew their student visas inside the USA or whether they're required to come back to Thailand for that.

I don't know about mask requirements for the flight over. I think if it's a Thai airline they won't enforce it. If it's a Burmese airline, officially they might still be required. Unofficially they might not care.

My guess is a lot of the Burmese and foreign passengers won't be wearing masks.

No test required if you're vaccinated. Insurance is required if you're flying in though. Can be any insurance, doesn't have to be the government one anymore.

Covid documentation for Myanmar. Proof of vaccination or a test (for those unvaccinated) and health insurance. Nearly every other country has moved on from this; strangely Myanmar hasn't despite the people not wearing masks anymore (unlike Thais, who still do).

Not if it's a business meeting. Of course, a friend could always come for tourism and go sightseeing while you're busy with meetings and then have dinner together in the evening.

She's probably referring to the myriad of online scammers located in dodgy casino towns located in border towns such as Tachilek, areas north of Lashio and Mongla.

A little bit ridiculous to assume your supervisor would be trying to scam you or sell you into an online extortion ring though.

Anyway, great to hear you have an internship lined up. Not a common story among foreigners in Thailand, though it is becoming a little more common than in years gone by.

If Yangon, no issue. If it were Tachilek, there are reports that entry may no longer be possible.

Yes. Get a reentry permit before you leave and you’ll be good to go.

just as a thought, it may be worth getting a multi entry permit. It may save money in the long run if you get invited to more meetings out of country in the coming year.
