The conversation highlights concerns over the misuse of the Education (ED) visa in Thailand, with community members discussing the recent enforcement of regulations and the reaction to potential crackdown. Comments point to a history of abuse and the role of schools and agents in facilitating these issues. Users express a mix of frustration and agreement regarding the necessity of stricter governance on this visa type, and there are speculations about future regulations affecting other visa categories like the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV).
Learn to fucking speak Thai and you can stay scamming.
But old fat bald boomers think we still live in the days of the British empire and they don’t have to lift a fat soggy finger to do anything

As much as I agree the Ed visa was abused. It was also advertised that way. And the "volunteer" visa prior to that. Immigration knew schools were selling BS Ed visas. Same thing with the current DTV visa. The intention is good but its being wildly abused.
ya thats true. But thats also why immigration doesn't like them. I think dtv should stick around. You get outside money coming in. Long term residents will usually spend more money etc etc.

The DTV will be next. Embassies have been approving them for just about anything. One dental appointment, a two week cooking course and so on.

Yes, but there were stories of people getting one dental appointment or a two week cooking class which is kind of ridiculous. But if they are approved by the Embassy okay. I just see them tightening the rules eventually.
but the DTV was created for that: for medical treatment, for courses, etc. It's not the same as using a student visa to work. Of course, if anyone is using the DTV to work, it should be also revoked, but the examples you mention about dental treatments and cooking courses are indeed within the scope of what the DTV is for.
It is amusing, but ultimately they're all approved by MFA through the embassies. They should have an annual "review" to ensure the conditions are still being met
Immigration will eventually raise the question to the MFA of why they are approving certain DTVs.

Are these people for real? Ffs! The Ed visa is being blatantly abused by the Thai sellers creaming off big money for Nothing. Oh shock horror it presented as abused by Ed visa holders (probably fighting age Russians males)all deprived of 60k a year each by the upstanding Thai agents and officials. Revoking the expensive visas is akin to theft ..obtaining money through false pretenses.

I can speak enough Thai to pass their tests. All the retards that didn’t bother to learn can get fucked
Someone on Reddit said “They don’t want foreigners to live here, they want them to come here for 2-4 weeks, spend as much money as they have and then get the F out - come back in 2 months, repeat again etc.”. Sounds like it.
It was rumoured about two years ago the lump sum for retirement visas would rise to 1 Millon baht or 85,000 baht per month. I wish it would. Easily affordable for most, but would start squeezing out the cheap charlies.
it would only matters people who do a new non o visa, not existing extensions

I guess the Authorities want to select the people applying for the retirement visa. I wonder about the impact it will have considering that neighbouring countries are offering less strict requirements in order to get the visa for living there.
the 800K THB is in place since 2008. With inflation today it would be around 1'150'000 THB. 1.5 mio I guess it would prevent some people to retire in Thailand. I wonder if this adapted amount will apply only to new pension visa candidates or to the old one as well.
