What is the latest update on obtaining an ED visa in Ho Chi Minh after changes at the Thai embassy in Hanoi?

Hello. Please share the latest information who has it. In September we are going to do study ED visa in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Prior to this, there was already a learning experience on an ED visa. But yesterday on 07/31/2019, we received an email from the school with approximately the following content:

"We have just got to know that Thai embassy in Hanoi will no longer give ED visa. But we don't know about Ho Chi Min and just wanted to inform you. Please check and let us know if you still want to go to Ho Chin Min."

After that, we strained, because the tickets to Vietnam and back to Thailand have already been paid, and a deposit has been paid for the visa too.

I ask everyone who knows at least something on this issue, or can directly clarify on the spot write here! From myself I would add that it still seems unrealistic to completely abolish Thai ED visas on the Vietnamese side, right? Maybe they changed some rules for schools or added new papers?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the recent changes regarding obtaining an ED visa from the Thai embassy in Hanoi, which reportedly stopped issuing such visas. Concerns arose as they had already made travel and deposit arrangements for studying in Ho Chi Minh City. Comments reflect a mix of opinions, with some asserting that the ability to obtain ED visas still exists in Ho Chi Minh City, while others noted stricter regulations potentially affecting applications, particularly for language schools. The consensus suggests that university students may face fewer issues if appropriate documentation is provided.

It has WAY more to do with the school (whether it's a visa mill or a real school) and your previous entry history to thailand before you decided to get an ED visa :O

Like were you living here on back-2-back tourist visa and visa exempt entries before you decided to study something and get an ED visa?

I just went there, but this is my first EDU visa. Whole thing went fairly smoothly, good luck. Interesting little city, worth checking out anyways.

My understanding is that you can still get an ED visa in HCMC. I think a lot of people are going there given the crackdown on ED visas in Laos.

I am under the impression that both Vientiane and Savannakhet should be avoided for ED visas, especially if there are multiple ED visas. I heard a lot of people are going to HCMC instead for ED visas because they are still relaxed there.

It appears the specific problems with the ED visas getting rejected is as follows:

1. For language schools, the students unable to prove they learned anything. I understand for a second ED visa, immigration may be taking "students" to another room, where they are asked questions in Thai. If they can't answer those questions back in Thai, they are rejected.

2. For language schools, more than one level listed on the paperwork. I understand the class can only list as "beginner" or "advance" (or some other "steps" like that), and not something like "beginner/ intermediate".

3. Students insisting to go to a specific embassy the school isn't familiar with, and the wrong paperwork is generated.

For the ED visa to study at a university, I haven't heard of any complaints on here. If you have your own question, you can make your own post.
