What Options Do I Have for Acquiring a Thai Working Visa Without Certification of My Degree?

I’m a UK citizen and travelled over to Bangkok on a tourist visa (now extended). I have a teaching job now in Bangkok (planning to start 20th April). My plan was to travel to Laos to get my degree certificates certified at the embassy and to get working visa but due to covid19, I was unable to travel. I was told to send certificates home (UK) to be certified and get visa in Bangkok. I have just been told that as of today, the government have put a stop on certifying all documents in the UK. Does anybody have any advice for me, or have you seen any news that may help me acquire a working visa without certifying the certificates

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen currently in Bangkok on a tourist visa, facing challenges due to COVID-19, seeks advice on obtaining a working visa without the certification of degree documents. Comments suggest contacting agents in the UK, verifying the employment situation, and exploring options through the British Embassy.

I'm 100% sure that's not going to happen. Do you have a contract?

>My plan was to travel to Laos to get my degree certificates certified at the embassy and to get working visa .

You'd get that done through your own government. The Thai government would have no idea about British degrees. Contact them. You can get to Laos by purchasing a Laos visa in the United Kingdom.

>Does anybody have any advice for me

Yes. Go or stay home. The English programs are going to be hurting soon, because the parents won't be able to afford it.

I'm closing comments. Thailand is *NOT* a place you want to be at right now.

The British government are urging everybody to go home. Book a flight and get out of here. After all, they'll be no teaching for many months.

Re my posting about the Brit Embassy, I have just seen on this FB page a notice from the USA Embassy which states that their consular section are no longer open for "notarial appointments" because of the pandemic. I am sure the Brit Embassy Consular Section will not be far behind in closing down their routine activities because of the pandemic, (if they haven't already done so) and so phone them quickly.

I am about to get a load of dox Legalised against a trip to Thailand some time in the future, and so I am very interested to know if FCO have stopped doing this.

Why not give the Brit Embassy in BKK a call and see if they will do it - they will Legalised other documents (Passport, UK Marriage Certs, UK Driving Licence etc) but don't know about Degree Certs unless they have an independent way of validating them as genuine.

I have just accessed the UK FCO website for Legalisation (certifying) of documents. There is no mention of any stop of this service.

"I have a teaching job now in Bangkok (planning to start 20th April)." Are you 100% sure this job will still exist in 2 -3 weeks when things get even worse ? I would prepare to the fact the school will cancel your job due to the Corona circumstances

my current visa runs out May 6th (tourist extended). Could you let me know what you mean by ‘agent’ as I was under the impression that this needed to be done by government

show your school the official gov notice and they should understand. Then ask an agent to do it in UK, no need to leave bangkok to do that
