when I’m back in the USA I’m going to apply for a OA retirement visa. My question is my medical insurance which states worldwide emergency care can I use this instead of purchasing a different policy
Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to apply for an OA retirement visa from the USA and asks whether their worldwide emergency care insurance can suffice instead of a specific Thai policy. Responses clarify that personal insurance must meet specific financial requirements, and most American insurance companies will not complete the necessary documentation. Additionally, there is a suggestion to consider applying for a different visa type (O instead of OA) and a query about eligibility for the new LTR visa.

I think y'r right Bobby, but I read some time ago, that Thai Embassies in some countries, don't give so much Non imm. O-A's to the same person. Again, maybe Thai Embassy dependent 🤷♂️
said, get a Non O. You’ll need the insurance for the initial application but not for any subsequent Extension. Saves you buying a second policy each year when you already have insurance.
You can get two years from an OA without transferring a single baht. Australians can get a five year OX visa also without transferring a baht. I prefer to leave my money in a super fund earning 7.5% tax free interest. The interest easily covers a health insurance policy. But it's each to their own of course. I couldn't justify leaving 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for the rest of my life earning a pittance of interest
As I say it's each to their own. Many people visit their home country every couple of years, so it's easy for them to get a new OA each time. I know several people with family/business ties who do this, and don't want to waste 800,000 baht.

The ONLY way you can use your own insurance is if meets the financial requirements and your insurance company will fill out the required form for other insurance. Almost no insurance companies, especially not American ones, will do this unfortunately.
