TLDR : Answer Summary
A 58-year-old planning to live in Thailand and marry a Thai girlfriend has several visa options. The Non-O Visa for retirees and the Retirement Visa are popular choices, as they require less paperwork and financial commitment compared to a Marriage Visa. The Retirement Visa mandates the applicant to be at least 50 years old and have a minimum of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account or a monthly income of 65,000 THB. The Marriage Visa, while providing a pathway to residency for those married to Thai citizens, involves more paperwork and financial scrutiny. Ultimately, the Non-O based on retirement is often recommended due to its simplicity and ease of renewal.

Non-O retirement visa from 50yo. with 800k baht, untouched, in a Thai bank account. Marriage visa is also an option (half the bank funds I think) but a lot more paperwork.
I reckon buy the Thai elite. Way better than retirement visa without any onus on you to maintain 800k in the account. And it offers your full independence with perks
Are you retired by that age, get a non-o retired before you get here, then open a bank account for your THB 800,000 for extension based on retirement, that is the best route for you if you are retired.
Consider a retirement visa for more freedom and independence. Absolutely do NOT get a marriage Visa. After the marriage has run its course your longevity in Thailand would otherwise be dependent on a moody female. Not a pleasant situation to be in.
Retirement visa - less hoops to jump through - if you get marriage visa its alot more paperwork and your wife has to be present. If marriage ends so does your visa
Bring her to your country, so she can qualify for retirement benefits and she will understand how we work for retirement, in Thailand they don't have government pension!!!
A good Thai girl will treat you like gold. Far better than almost any US lady. Beware of city girls and bar girls though. Some can run you through the mill just the same as US bar girls. Good luck.
I am maried to a thai, and had all kin of visa, the las time I had a 90 visa from my country, then once in thailand got a 1 year visa single entry, then went for a bank account, then retirement visa 1900Bath, need to put 800K Bath in bank for 3 month or a proof of revenu to cover, then one year later maried visa,1900 Bath, only need 400k Bath in bank, in both case you have to present yourself every 90 day to imigration free of charges,
Not Just Thais ! Any Asian Woman ! As Long As Your In Thailand ALL YOU WILL EVER BE IS A FOREIGNER ! AND You Will Place 7th In Importance To Her & Her Family After The Dog. BUT If It Makes You Feel Any Better "You'll Get To Pay For Everything. EVERYTHING !
Retirement Visa.. way best option. Sorry for speaking out of turn.. BUT be very very careful about "getting married to your Thai girl friend".. I have heard so so so many stories about the negative outcomes that usually arise from this situation.
Maintaining tight control of your finances and absolutely everything, involving all living arrangements and innevitable nexus with prospective inlaws, is a veritable, potential mine field.
Stay independent totally.. be prudent and extremely cautious.
Being married to a Thai citizen allows you to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa (O) (Marriage/Family), ideal for long-term residency. This visa is initially issued for 90 days, extendable for up to one year (12 months) at the immigration office within Thailand.
Key points about the Marriage Visa (Non-O):
Financial Requirements: For a one-year extension, you must demonstrate a monthly income of at least approximately 40,000 THB or have
400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to the application.
Documentation: You will need your passport, Thai marriage certificate, photos of the couple together, and your spouse's identity documents.
Process: It is usually obtained first at a Thai embassy abroad and then extended there.
Benefits: It allows you to live with your spouse and, if you meet the requirements, provides access to naturalization or permanent residency.

Way less paperwork with non-o based on retirement.
Also like if you start on visa extempt, then you need to all kind of stuff before you guys can marry and open bank etc
But if you start with non-o based on retirement that you can apply from your own country and open your bank account. Then walk down to your local immigration and ask requirements for one year extension and repeat that to end of time.
