Can anyone please give me advice? I would greatly appreciate it. I am Belgian, residing in Thailand with a non-O retirement visa and a one-year extension. I own an apartment, and I have a yellow house book and pink ID. I want to marry a Cambodian woman at the end of this year who works in Thailand with a valid work permit. According to the GPT chat, the day after we get married in Thailand, I have to: Go to my wife's employer; he must submit a severance notice online (Form 33); he must print a copy of this severance notice (resignation letter) and give it to my wife. Then I will go to Kasikorn Bank to request a bank certificate for my account. Then, a few days later, go with my wife and two witnesses to the immigration office to obtain Kor Ror 2 and 3, the resignation letter, the bank certificate, and my yellow house book. The immigration officer would then immediately convert my wife's status to a dependent visa. Her stay in my apartment would then be legal. Can anyone in this group confirm this, or does anyone have experience with this situation? Thank you in advance for your responses.
Answer summary
A Belgian expat residing in Thailand seeks advice on the visa process after marrying a Cambodian woman who is working in Thailand. After their marriage, he plans for her to apply for a dependent visa based on his non-O retirement visa. The discussion reveals complexities in the process, including the need for a severance notice from her employer, a potential requirement for her to resign, and confirmation of immigration procedures. Some commenters share their experiences and suggest checking with immigration offices or expert agents to clarify rules, especially concerning the Cambodian woman's work permit and dependency status.

I tried to do the same thing Immigration said she simply gets an Non O from outside Thailand based on visiting Non Thai family

Simple but

Non O was refused in Laos & Malaysia she was told could only be done in her own country

We haven't been back to Africa yet

Kor nor 2 thing can only be made if there is a Thai partner & is not available to foreign couples

Non O might need her money in bank..they might not accept your bank statement & sponsorship letter. Upto the consolate

We had all marriage documents already certified by MFA & embassy in her home country & Thailand before applying still failed to make her non O..

Dependant visa can be made on Non O A 2026 which is a year's visa.

Non O is only 90 day visa dependant visa now cannot be made on an permission to stay

Thats what we were informed now in 2026

OP
ProficientGoose2234 I have since learned from a visa agency, to ensure everything proceeds officially and smoothly, that she (I am accompanying her, as I am staying in Thailand) will return to her home country (Cambodia) immediately after her resignation as an employee, and in Cambodia she will apply for a non-O visa (dependent). With all my wife's and my documents, as well as Korr 2 and 3, my non-O retirement visa and one-year extension, and my Thai bank account and bank update, which contains more than enough funds, we will submit them to the Thai embassy in Cambodia. She will then receive her 90-day visa after a few days. When we return to Thailand, she will report to immigration before the 90 days are up; they will then link her visa to mine.

She is from an ASEAN country, I do not believe she needs "a real visa". Check with some experts, I doubt you find help here. Look at the idiots who mock your decision ... I wonder why the admins not just kick/ban them.

Angelo Schneider There will always be people who talk nonsense; they should indeed ban those people. Thanks for your message.

Rudi Vermeulen As I said, ask a real expert. People from ASEAN countries can relatively freely settle all over the ASEAN area. BUT: there are restrictions, regarding work and other things. E.g. if she can not show she has income, she might not be welcome. And for many types of work other ASEANs need a work permit. Which is not the same oen westerners need who work for Thai companies.

And I know: they have to show up at immigration at least once a year (no idea about 90 day reporting - most certainly they have to do that).

Fact is, when I lived in Nakhon Phanom, I visited immigration about every 2 to 3 months, and with my bad luck there always was a couple of dozen ASEAN people, who did some paper work. Showing their passports. Usually in bigger groups, indicating they where there with their employer / or his agent.

Bottom line, I doubt she needs a visa based on being your dependent, my assumption is, if you can make her a bank account in her name, and wire 15k each month to it, then she has proof of income and can stay indefinitely.

Note: that is an assumption, I do not know the details :D

If she had a visa on being dependent on you, most certainly all the rules for a Non O based on marriage or being dependent would apply, like having 400k locked in a bank account (in her name) all year.

Also that stupid repeated comment: "go to an agent" is rather silly and stupid. Agents are focusing on easy money from a "farang". Your future wife is not a farang, she is an ASEAN citizen. Completely different rules.

There hardly will be an "agent" who actually knows what to do. And it is in the big picture in your interest hat YOU yourself know what the actual rules are instead of relying on an agent, which you can not trust.

OTOH: think about a fall back option :D What about living in Cambodia instead? Visa vise much more simple for you than Thailand!

Anyway: I wish you good luck! Perhaps we once meet in Thailand, I am back soon.

Rudi Vermeulen I first come to BKK. The rest is not sure. I have a job oppertunity at Chiang Rai Rajabhat university.

But also am I in talks about a kind of martial arts resort in Lampang, north Thailand, Lanna kingdome.

Where I might be business partner and teacher.

My heart draws me to Kanchanaburi, but my love there is ignoring me :P

I guess, I stay 3 months in BKK (August till November) and then move to Kanchanburi.

OP
Angelo Schneider I own property in Thailand, including Tabien Baan and a Pink ID. My future Cambodian wife also prefers to continue living in Thailand. She has actually been living with me for a year already, but there is a chance that her work permit will not be renewed at the beginning of next year. I now know what we can do to give her the security to be able to stay in Thailand. In short: get married in Thailand, quit my job, go to Cambodia to apply for a non-marriage visa at the Thai Embassy, return to Thailand, and have her visa linked to mine. Where will you be staying when you come to Thailand?

You obtain the kor ror 2 & 3 from the amphur where you got married. As far as I understand it the wife of someone on a retirement visa can't get a Non-O visa either inside Thailand or at any nearby consulate. The only way it might work is if your "wife" was already on an extension of stay based on working, stopped working and thus that extension of stay needs to be cancelled and then she immediately applies for an extension of stay as your dependant, you'd need to speak with your immigration office to see if they will allow it.

But why does she have to stop working? You can be married and she can continue to work on her current permission to stay.

One other thing to be aware of assuming immigration says it's possible is that they may require you to be married for 3 months before they will look at it.

Thank you for your reply, John. As I said, after the marriage she will stop working immediately and ask her boss for a letter of resignation (Form 33). My Cambodian girlfriend currently still has a work permit until February 13, 2027, but there is a chance that it will not be renewed. Since I have a non-retirement visa, my wife could obtain an independent visa with the necessary documents, as I already wrote.

and as I've said your wife won't be able to get a visa inside Thailand based on you being on being on a retirement visa. You need to go and speak to your immigration office and see if they will allow her to cancel her extension of stay based on work and immediately apply for an extension of stay based on being your dependant. This has to be done on the same day even if it's at different immigration offices. I would enquire sooner rather than later as you luckily have time, as I mentioned they may want to see you have been married for a period of time if they will allow it so stopping work immediately you are married may not be an option. Only the immigration office you will use can answer this
