TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian in Indonesia is inquiring about the visa application process from Jakarta, specifically regarding ease of obtaining a visa and information on the now-defunct Special Tourist Visa (STV) that was available due to COVID-19. Community members advise checking the official Thai embassy website for requirements and clarify that the STV is no longer applicable.
I’m a little confused I was in Thailand last year for a month and the year before I was in Thailand for a month and I just had my Canadian passport that’s all I needed they told me it was good for six months
nobody told you it was good for six months. Never was. Never will be. You came in visa exempt (you had no visa) and could have extended that in Thailand for 1900 baht. Total 60 days. Then out of the country. But 30 days for a Canadian is always no problem
you get a 30-days stay permit upon entering without a visa. You can extend it for 30 more days only once. Then you will have to leave Thailand. You could theoretically enter visa-exempt again, get 30 days and also can extend these for 30 more days. But after this your possibilities are exhausted. You will get rejected if you try a third consecutive visa-exempt entry. It is called "misuse" of visa-exempt entries for a longstay
