TLDR : Answer Summary
The success rate for applying for a Digital Tourist Visa (DTV) outside of Thailand using a bank statement from the applicant's home country appears to be quite high. Many respondents in the community suggest that applications using non-Thai bank accounts typically succeed, often citing an estimated success rate above 97%. While some debate exists regarding the necessity of using a Thai bank account, it is generally agreed that as long as the bank account shows sufficient funds (at least 500,000 THB equivalent), the country of the bank account should not matter. Some applicants have reported successful approvals using both Thai and foreign bank accounts, provided they met the financial requirements and could prove that their income comes from outside Thailand.

Apply in the country where you documents originate from, for best success.

A Thai bank is absolutely not needed, and with DTV you will not be able to get a Thai Bankaccount.

Anonymous participant 778 totally NOT correct 🙁 nothing in the rules about the issuing of a DTV says you can't have a bank account in thailand OR that you can't show proof of funds FROM that thai bank account for the DTV

Anonymous participant 778 that’s definitely not true. I had my DTV approved in Hanoi, Vietnam by submitting my Thai bank account where my salary was regularly deposited prior to applying.

What really matters is that you’re working for a company based outside of Thailand, the company is legitimate, you can provide proof of income going into your account, and that you meet the 500k THB financial requirement.

In which country do you have your bank account? Of course, your chances decrease if you have a bank account in a third world country.

Best to use a non-Thai bank account. I recall seeing an applicant using a Thai account being asked for extra documentation to prove that money originated from outside Thailand in the first place.

Anonymous participant 929 doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as you have it and not the date before you apply that's the issue people borrow from friends

I would estimate non-Thai bank accounts used for DTVs applications are 97+%. Most use non-Thai bank accounts. You will be fine with non-Thai bank account.

yes, but you shouldn't.

Dtv is a tourist visa.

If you already have a thai bank account that shows you have either had a non immigrant visas before, or a work permit

Part of the dtv requirements is the money you make must come from outside of thailand.

Having a thai bank account for the application makes things blury and more difficult.

there is no requirement whatsoever for money outside of Thailand. 500k baht equivalent. Anywhere… including Thailand.

Yes - it’s absolutely a tourist visa. No problem having a Thai account. Many do
