After 180 days, do we extend dtv by reporting to immigration? Aside from the application form, passport and recent photo, what else do I need? I hear conflicting information about this. Some say we need to apply afresh, like provide fresh bank statements etc. others say that's not necessary. Which is true?
Answer summary
To extend a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand after 180 days, it is generally recommended to leave the country and re-enter for a new stamp instead of dealing with immigration extensions, which can be complicated and require extensive paperwork including updated bank statements. Many users suggest a 'border bounce' as the easier method, especially given the current challenges with extending visas at immigration offices.

Best and easiest option is to just train, bus or fly to a destination outside thailand. Stay away for a while. The longer the better and then come back.

It says to leave the country, just do as the rules say, you've had 180 days to plan the couple of day trip. You're supposed to be a tourist, not living here permanently

While the DTV does allow for one extension at an immigration office that can be difficult as a lot of paperwork is required and immigration doesn't like dealing with it. Leaving and reentering and getting a new 180 day stamp is easier but unless you fly you can't go to Cambodia the land borders are closed. Just go to a different Country there's plenty to choose from.

OP
If I cross the border into Cambodia and then get back to Thailand at once, wouldn't the immigration officer find that odd? Or do i spend a day in Cambodia and then return?

yes they will find it odd. That is why you create a pattern of travel that matches their expectations. Don't wait 180 days before leaving. Do it all randomly and spend at least a week outside the country each time.

Leave and re enter the country, trying to do at immigration will be tricky as they don't like the DTV and want it gone

Don't do it, border bounce instead

Immigration offices don't particularly like the DTV so some will make it almost impossible to extend. Others want to see updated information for whatever activity you initially signed up with or proof of ongoing work if working and 500k baht in the bank for at least the last month. Much easier to just do a border bounce and get a new stamp
