I have an American friend that arrived visa exempt. He would like to extend 30 days. I believe he has to go to MTT and the cost is 1900 baht. My questions - is there a particular form he needs to fill out? What number is it? Is it available online? Otherwise, I assume he just walks up to the desk and shows his passport and asks for a 30 day extension?
Regarding a 30 day extension and a Covid extension. Is there a preferred order if the plan is to ask for both eventually?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat aiming to extend their 30-day visa exemption in Thailand must visit the immigration office (MTT) and pay a processing fee of 1,900 baht. To successfully apply for the extension, they will need to fill out the 'TM 7' application form, which can be found online. Required documents include a passport with copies of the data page, recent visa (if applicable), entry stamps, and a TM 6 departure card. Additionally, a passport-sized photo and potentially a TM 30 notification form should be prepared. It's important to apply for the 30-day tourism extension before seeking a Covid-related extension.
