TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your 30-day visa issued on arrival in Bangkok, you need to visit the immigration office at the government complex on Chaengwattana Road. Ensure you bring a copy of your passport (including the entry stamp), a photo, and 1900 THB for the fee. Fill out the TM7 form upon arrival at the office.
Done. Easy & fast except for the trek there & taxis telling me it was too far to go! In hindsight I should have taken a few spare forms if I need to repeat & just jump straight in the queue. Thank you for the clear instructions & where to go.
, you can apply for a 30 day extension every time you enter on a tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry. That means once each entry. So later this year, if you enter from overseas you'll get a 30 day visa exempt stamp and you can extend that another 30 days like you're gonna do soon on this entry.

Quote: "Travelers, under visa exemption scheme, arriving via an international airport will be given a 30 day visa exempt stamp, however people using OUT/IN method to extend their stay might be questioned after 6 visa exempt entries. There is no specific period given and there is no rule on how many visa exempt will be issued for one person. An old rule “90 days in a 180 days period” has been cancelled many years ago. As of 31st December 2016 Thailand limit visa exempt entries at land border to TWO per calendar year".

Thank you. Will give it a go. I can only do this once? Is that correct or could I do it again later in the year when entering from overseas - not visa runs per se?
, if you go downstairs in that building there are copy shops. They'll make the passport copies you need, fill out the form and glue your passport sized photo on it too.
Then go upstairs to the immigration office, show the people at the counter that gives queue numbers out your passport with the 30 day visa exempt stamp in it, and they will know you want a 30 day extension. They'll give you a queue for section K.

Thank you so much. Do I just ask for a 30 day extension or should I have a reason?

Thanks Tod. I didn't realise there were several to choose from in Bangkok.

You need a copy of your passport (ident site and entry stamp with TM 6 card) a picture and 1900BHT. Go to immigration and fill out the TM7 form. That's all
Edit: and your passport

TM6 is the departure card. You don't go to the Airport.
You have to go to the office. Pick an office where you stay
