Hi All. I have a friend who is married to a Thai lady and living in Roi et. He has just got a 30 day visa and is looking to renew. I understood from previous posts that there was a way for him to get 3 month visa without showing any funds. Could you please remind me of the procedure? Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A foreigner married to a Thai spouse, currently holding a 30-day visa, can extend their stay by applying for a 60-day Extension of Stay at their local Immigration office without needing to provide financial proof. This extension costs 1,900 THB. Alternatively, they can travel to Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh City to apply for a 1-year Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage, which also does not require financial documentation.

To get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai from the consulate in Savannakhet you need
the original marriage certificate (if married in thailand it's the one with the rose border)
copies of:
front&back of the marriage certificate
front&back of your thai wife's i/d card
thai wife's house book listing
data page of your passport
lao visa and entry stamp
(you sign everything with your name on it and your wife signs everything with her name on it meaning you BOTH sign the marriage certificate copies)
you need 2 passport sized photos and the filled out application along with 5000baht. You turn in your application one morning before 11:30 and you pick up your passport the next afternoon after 1:30
copies passport, copy Laos visa, copy wife id and housebook, copy marriage certificate (signed by wife), 5.000 Thb. This by remember, if you use the search funtion you will find this requirements by those who actually went there.
Does not exist, so no luck involved. He has a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, an entry without a Visa. He can get 60 days Extension of Stay at his local Immigration office based on visiting his wife without any financial proof and cost 1.900 Thb. Or he can go to Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh for a 1 year Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage with Thai national, only these 2 Consulates do not require financial proof.
