TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, there is no maximum number of days you can spend on a visa-exempt entry. However, there are limits to the number of entries; specifically, you are allowed only two land entries under the visa exemption. There is no official limit for air entries, but frequent travelers may be questioned about their stay duration and ability to support themselves, especially if they attempt multiple entries without proper visas. It's advisable to seek a tourist visa if planning a longer stay.

I was told by the Immigration officer at DMK that it’s considered an “illegal visa run” since I fly in so frequently from my own home country and stay here longer than home. She said next time I will need to get a tourist visa to fly in. This happened just last month.
It all depends on the officer that day. My passport is ranked as top in the world for visa free entry so don’t know, plus I have never once did a border run.

Been doing it for 4 years, between 4-6 trips per year into Thailand with no visa, no issue personally.
, whether a person is or isn't liable for taxation in a country has NOTHING to do with how long you can stay. Keep things on topic. Thanx (y)

In most countries if you spend more than half a year you usually have to file taxes regardless of whether you we "working" or not. Would look up Thai requirements if I were you?

No - no maximum in days. Only Two land Exempt entries maximum allowed. No Air Exempt Entry limit BUT after about 5 or so you may be pulled aside and questioned about how you support yourself, questioned about working illegally and you may be denied entry at some point.
