Just got a news from my school said that in Vietnam and Lao has new system for their ED-Visa. New one is that you go apply and get ED-Visa then cone back inside Thailand and go to immigration office to get 3 months visa(in vietnam and lao will only give visa but without long how 3 or 6 months). Ive never heard about such a thing like this. So anyone has recent experience about apply ED-visa in those countries please give me advice. Is it real?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The recent claims about a new system for applying for an ED visa in Vietnam and Laos have sparked confusion among expats. According to comments, there is no new system; instead, the process involves applying for a Single Entry Non-Immigrant ED visa, which when entering Thailand grants a 90-day stay, with the possibility of extending it through immigration.

There is NO new system, you apply for the Single Entry Non Immigrant ED visa and on entry into Thailand you get 90 days of stay. I guess it is a language translation error as schools love to tell their new students they hand out 1 year visa's till the moment you paid the school fees. They try to tell you that it actually is get a visa at a Thai Consulate and get 90 days on entry, than a visit to Immigration for an 90 day Extension of Stay at your costs and keep on doing this till the end of the course.

I don't understand.

You're saying you go to Laos to get the ED visa that is valid for an undetermined date, and then you go to immigration and get a 3 month visa? Doesn't make sense to me

What may make sense is that Laos or Vietnam issue a single entry 90 day visa, and at the end of the 90 days, you go to immigration and get an extension of stay - maybe 3 months?

Savannakhet will not grant Ed visa..

Not suitable for Non ED, Non O retirement, Non O volunteer.

Vientianne

Suitable for apply Non B (only one in one full year), Non ED (most first timers have no problem, only one application from Language Schools in one full year , cover letter must only indicate your specific level & show bank balance THB 20,000.- & Rental Contract. As of now we can not confirm on how to do with second year applicants).

If it is informal education like a language school, do not apply in Hanoi. They started mass rejecting Ed visas a few months ago, I know several people who were rejected there.

I think you are OK to apply for Ed Visa in Vientiane Thai Consulate. Follow your schools recommendation.
