Following up on the ED visa situation, I'm currently waiting in ho chi minh, as though I haven't been refused, I haven't been approved either. They are now asking for guarantor's letters to prove you have sufficient funds, and even photos of you at work In the U.K. It seems they are having a major crackdown. Fingers crossed for monday

Wait until these Embassy's and consulates discover calculators. They will quickly work out there are more ED visas out there than school desk spaces.

The MOE that issues the ED paperwork to the school is pretty dialed in on that (at least here in Bangkok). The calculate the square meters of a school's classrooms and allow them only so many ED visas per school.

There was a well know school a few years ago that had more students enrolled in their school than all the other private schools and real universities combined. They had to rent an entire floor in an office building to meet the square meter requirements per student..

Likely not. Most schools are pretty careful these days. Visa mill schools are a tiny minority.

Wow, my school just recommended Vientiane or Ho Chi Minh city. I have been to Vientiane (edit: as a TOURIST) a couple times already but never seen Vietnam, so was hoping to go there. Ideally we would go to Da Nang but it is unclear if that is even an option.

I have never done this before, so am confused by this process of going, waiting, and then being surprised with more documentation required, that obviously one doesn't have with them on a trip.

@Robert ******
Thanks! Very good to know.

in Vietnam you visit or the Thai Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or in Hanoi. Your ideally trip to Da Nang is still possible, only a longer way to these consulates.

@Benjamin *****
I don't think so. Apparently it was unclear. I've never had a visa for Thailand other than a 30 or 60 day tourist visa. Never been to a consulate other than the one in the USA that was ridiculously easy since it was just a standard tourist visa.

@Robert ******
um, I have visited Vientiane. Never been to a consulate outside of the USA.

Is there a typo in your post?
Robert *******
please, you have been tot Vientiane Thai Consulate a couple times already, but you have never done that before.

Best of luck hope you get thru - please report back and let us know how it goes

I never understood why a huge number of people switched and went to HCMC. If your intention is study and your documents are OK than other places are more welcoming.

Thank you.

I can show my last year thai passbank with almost monthly transfers from my country. At the time of the trip it will have way more than

. Not sure if I need to show something from my Spanish bank accounts... I even could show statements for my monthly taxes in Spain from the small business I get my money from. But I'm not sure if it will be enough.

So, from your experience, nowadays Vientiane (one year rule), Yangon, Penang and Kota Bharu would be OK fir 2nd ED? As said, I'm ready for an interview both chat and reading/writing - at least if they don't use jargon and speak relatively slow 😅
Amornrat **********
We not have trips to HCMC, but from customer we hear following: if you can proof bank statement three month, good enough skills than HCMC is OK. Penang, Kota Bharu even Yangon too. Vientiane is OK, but they observe the one full year rule. Savannakhet no. Did not hear anything from Phnom Penh (best avoided anyway). KL & Hanoi is a no go for ED (IMHO).

@Amornrat *********
which one would you recommend for a second ED this month? My school recommended HCMC or Penang...

I was thinking in HCMC because I could fly via Da Nang from CM, spend a few days in the area (I like so much) and come back to Chiang Mai avoiding the Don Mueang and BKK airports; the avoiding those entry ports is the main reason for me to choose HCMC.

If you think that HCMC is a hassle, would you recommend Penang or Vientiane? Or any other? I'm aware of the 1-year rule in Vientiane.

I have all my documents, don't worried about a test/interview, etc

Thanks in advance.

I have just been advised by my school not to fly to Ho Chi Minh but to go to Taiwan to apply for an ed visa. I can see why now. Good luck on Monday.

Many thanks. Got my visa in Taipei yesterday. They were not very polite and difficult as you said but I was able to pick up my visa on the same day.
Tod *********
there is NO thai consulate in Taiwan :O You instead get your visas from the Trade and Economic Office of Thailand there.

It can take up to 3 days to get the visa back once you apply.

Make sure you have your ducks in a row when you're going there. They are NOT known for their easy going manner..
