TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry concerns the requirements for obtaining an ED (education) visa in Hanoi as a first-time applicant. The original poster's school has their paperwork ready and they want to fly soon. There are discussions about experiences in Hanoi versus HCMC, previous visa history, the potential difficulties related to their new passport, and advice on border crossing when re-entering Thailand.

Based on what information they send you to Hanoi ? First timer are still OK in Vientiane.

yes. I think he will get his Ed Visa with the new passport. Its the return arrival entry with many visas and entries over 5 years in replaced passport ....that is his greatest problem.

I guess you'll find out once you get there if your school knows what they're talking about.

as I said...I thought you would have a new passport. But that trick does not fool Thai Immigration upon your arrival. Be prepared.

As stated before...Good luck..

You are an experienced visa runner..

So you know of the risks. If I were you...if you luckily get the Ed Visa in Hanoi..I would choose to reenter Thailand by land border crossing..not by airport...choose that border carefully.

Do you now have a new passport from Spain?

If so you may get your Ed Visa at Hanoi, but be prepared to answer Thai Immigration questions upon your return to Thailand as they will link your old and new passport electronically upon arrival.

If you have a recent history of living in Thailand on various visas and visa exempt entries you may not be successful in getting the Ed Visa in HCMC or Hanoi Vietnam.
