I applied for the Thailand Tourist 90 day E-Visa. They replied back to me and told me that there is a requirement to return to your home country at the end of the tourist visa and they need proof of a flight back to my home country, otherwise they will not approve my visa. I was not aware of this requirement. It was not posted anywhere. I was planning on exploring the other local countries. Going back to my home country is not something I can do.
Answer summary
The individual applied for a Thailand Tourist 90-day E-Visa and encountered a requirement for proof of a return flight to their home country, which was unexpected. The requirement is to demonstrate that the applicant will leave Thailand by the end of the visa duration. Many commenters suggested that this could be a misunderstanding, as other options like purchasing a cheap onward flight to a neighboring country (e.g., Vietnam, Cambodia) would typically suffice. They emphasized that a flight out of Thailand does not necessarily need to be to the home country. The situation reflects the inconsistencies in visa requirements across different Thai embassies.

It's so simple if you're American, buy the ticket that refund is guaranteed if you don't travel. Those day in eighties my time the call it open ticket.

To be honest...based on your history in this group you really should engage an agent to sort your things. First you wanted to apply for a DTV, then a non O, now you applied with insufficient/contradicting information for a tourist visa.

I'm not sure but I think you make everything even worse.
F *********************
F *********************
It should be an outbound flight regardless of where you go, so you can buy an outbound ticket to any other country as long as you depart before your visa expires.
Jay *****

Wait so when you filled out the application did you actually put your onward flight details since you are visiting multiple countries? If you left it blank then they are probably concern that you think you are just going to stay there or something. If you added your onward flight details with the correct day before your visa expiry then I’m not sure what to tell you. No country can force you to return to your home country what you do OUTSIDE the country is none of their business. What makes more sense is proof that you will leave the country right.

Simple fix. Just buy a refundable return flight for the requested doc document. Once in Thailand, cancel the ticket. During the exit, all is needed is your outbound ticket to any destination.

The TR visa always had the requirement of having proof of ticket that you leave the country. Flight back home or to another country. Btw you only get 60 days of stay when you enter the country. My consulate put a little paper into my passport that explained this. Of course I was dumb and only saw it just after i arrived in Bangkok. But still early enough to get a 30 days extension to stay the intended 90 days. It was clearly written in the requirements list which i even printed and brought to the consulate. They said congrats, finally someone who has all documents. This was before the e-Visa and it took 2 minutes to check documents (bank statement, hotel booking, flights in and out)

Your passport stamp is your deadline to depart Thailand on a e-visa you applied for in your home country. You can do border runs to return to Thailand to reset your stay. (Check with immigration) If you don't use you return flight on that time, you just lost a flight home and need to purchase another. It is a requirement to show a return ticket to your home country or any country out of Thailand. (Check with your travel agent.

Very complicated, but possible to do with a lot of running around and talking to the right person. Good luck!

I'm somewhat confused here. And I suspect the consulate will be similarly confused. You have applied for a tourist visa which allows you to enter Thailand for 60 days and can be extended by a further 30 days (it must be used within 90 days) but have booked accommodation in Thailand for 180 days. How do you propose to use that accommodation when you won't have permission to stay for that 180 days? You may also have an issue with your airline who may require you to have a ticket out of Thailand within the 60 days you'll get stamped in for. For me you need to change your accommodation booking to within 60 days, have a ticket out of Thailand within the 60 days and write a covering letter explaining your "mistake" and saying you wish to also travel to Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos (wherever your ticket out within 60 days is for).

There is no such thing as a 90 tourist visa they are 60 day single entry and 6 months multiple entry or a 90 non O longterm visa that can be extended to 12 months.

All tourist visas should have a return flight or a bus leaving Thailand a 90 day non O doesn't require a return flight to be books so I am confused what visa did you apply for ?
Alex ********
Alex ********
Simon Adams Wrong. The single entry tourist visa is valid for (3 months) 90 days. The METV is valid for (6 months) 180 days.
Simon *******

Alex Thomas Sorry its valid for 60 days stay and you have an option to extend for another 30 WTF is wrong with people on the here.

Yes its valid for 3 month but only allow a 60 day stay
Steve******
Steve******
Alex Thomas that was not the point of Simon Adams.

He said that there is no tourist visa which grants you a stay of 90 days when entering Thailand and that is absolutely correct.

You refer to the period of which the visa is generally valid. The single entry tourist visa is valid for 90 days, i.e. within that timeframe you must enter Thailand otherwise your visa expires. However, when you enter Thailand you just get a 60 day stamp.

You can apply for a 30 day extension at the immigration but that doesn't change the fact that the tourist visa just grants 60 days per entry.
David **************
David **************
OP
Simon Adams 90 Day E-Visa tourist visa. It is 90 days to enter Thailand, you get stamped for 60 days and can extend 30 days
Simon *******
Simon *******
David Vankerkhoven its a 60 day tourist visa with a 30 day extension not a 90 tourist visa ,all tourists with a visa need to show a flight, bus or train out of Thailand, if you are over 50 just get a 90 day non O ,you don't need to get show when you are leaving and it works out cheaper and easier as you won't need to go to immigration in Thailand to get the extension.
Jim *********
Jim *********
David Vankerkhoven and you need to show a ticket out of Thailand for 60 days after your arrival date, not 90 days even though you can extend it in Thailand, an extension is not guaranteed to be approved. I was almost denied entry when I had a return flight for 90 days by immigration. Airlines also usually require you to have proof of an onward ticket for the length of your visa or they won't allow you to board.
Johan_B*******
Johan_B*******
I didnt know there is an option for flat out 90 day Thailand Tourist eVisa. I thought Tourist eVisa only granted 60-day of stay, then you can personally extend it for another 30 days at local immigration and pay THB 1900. Have i been missing out new changes regarding duration of TReV?

And i know it is a requirement to provide an EXIT ticket out of Thailand during/before the expiration of your stay (60 days), but it doesnt have to return to your homecountry. Anywhere outside of Thailand is fine. Again, maybe i've been missing out tons of new changes lately 🫣

“No, you cannot apply or even enter Thailand on a Tourist visa on a one-way ticket. The Embassy or consulate will refuse your visa application if not being able to provide proof of return or outgoing ticket from Thailand. In order to apply for a Thai Tourist visa, you must present itinerary or confirm paid ticket showing arrival and departure date as well”

Call me stupid, but I just entered Thailand May 29th on my Brazilian passport. Had TDAC printed and on my phone. Signed residential proof of accommodations for the next 90 days. 21k Baht cash tucked in an envelope ready to show. Printed forward itinerary for August 26th. Placed my fingers on the little gadget, looked at the camera, green checkmark and WELCOME TO THAILAND smiley emoji. Lady at passport control slaps a stamp on a page already filled with previous Thai entry/exit stamps. Smiles.Did not ask for ANY of the crap people blab about on these posts. I say Khop kun na kaap...Off to Airport Rail Link. What's so fucking complicated about that????

you did it correctly. Those are all requirements to enter Thailand as a tourist. You could have been asked to show any one of those things, and failure to do so could have resulted in being denied entry. Many people run stop signs every day and never get a ticket, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still illegal.

The op is talking about a tourist visa from an embassy though, which is a completely different thing than you used.

Ole Kristoffersen that makes it a 60-days tourist visa, not a 90-days tourist visa. Actually that is what the e-visa website says: "for a stay no longer than 60 days". It is irrelevant that you can get the stay permit extended by 30 more days. The visa validity is all the same for many visa-types. Only a Non-Imm-O Visa is the "real" 90-days visa, a tourist visa is just a 60-days visa. Both have a validity for the use of one single entry, of 90 days

ProficientTurtle7614 There are many reasons why people don't have to return to their home country, including traveling to other countries after Thailand or just that they live in country that's not the homecountry of their passport. What if someone wants to go check out Cambodia or Vietnam after Thailand, is that ok with you? Flight ticket out of Thailand is different than specifying it has to be back to your homeland.
