Thanks for adding me!

I’m looking for advice about the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to bring my Thai girlfriend/fiancé into the US?

Neither of us are rich, just in love and want to get married and live a simple happy life together… 🤷‍♂️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses seeking advice on how to bring a Thai girlfriend or fiancé to the U.S. for marriage. Various community members share their insights on the K-1 fiancé visa as a recommended option, which grants 90 days for the couple to marry after arrival in the U.S. However, they highlight challenges such as a high rejection rate for visa applications, financial requirements, and the need for extensive proof of the relationship's legitimacy. Some members also propose marrying in Thailand first to simplify the process, while others caution against the potential difficulties immigrants face in the U.S. and question the motives of such relationships.

In my experience easy,fast and cheap are not words that you can use when it comes to getting a visa for a girlfriend to visit the UK and in guessing USA is the same
Frank *****
I had an older friend in pattaya, who had been married for 20+ years to a Thai woman. He got real sick and had to return to the usa for hospitalization, his wife applied for a visa to go too, but was denied. He died alone. Not a big fan of the US embassy in bkk.
Tim ****
Do k1 through siam legal
Lee *************
Get married in Thailand first, make sure registration is official, then try.
Tim ****
@Lee **********
no need to marry in thailand, k1 is quickest and easiest
Peter **********
I guess the fastest way would be by plane. Probably also better for your budget than by boat. 😉

Another old guy trapped lol , Do you really think that a beautiful younger woman will marry you for love and not kick your ass after getting the green card? Stay in Thailand and enjoy
William ******
Good luck with that....
Donald ******
She does not have to be from a wealthy family nor do you. Read the US requirements. You must follow the rules exactly.
Steve *********
@Donald *****
- you clearly have no idea who gets visas here and who doesn't. Wealth or independent means are what matters. People who can demonstrate they have more reason to return to Thailand than to remain in the U.S.
NA'Ahulelua *********
I would wait until Trump and his administration is out of office…..also don’t get married here..in the event your marriage doesn’t work out and she bolts you’ll have a difficult time trying to find her in this country to get her to sign the papers.
Donald ******
If you use the K1 do not marry in Thailand, it delays the process.
Donald ******
K1 visa. Easy, start early as the regime delays the process now. Follow the online e directions exactly. Not hard. Keep all copies, application numbers and the Usic papers. When you get approval go quick! Marry with in 90 days once she is here! Must do follow up paperwork to get permanent green card! Or hire an attorney, try Siam legal. They advised me, but I did the US paperwork.
Edward ******
I’m not returning to the states until 29 but everything I’ve heard points to the fiance visa being simplest.
John *******
Do you have a lot on money because that is what you’ll need!!

Good luck but foolish unless you have money to waste.

I’m in Chicago. My friend in Thailand has tried 4x. We paid app fee and each time was denied. Tried to call US embassy and Thai embassy. Both useless. We are trying to meet in Canada or another country first. I did not want to marry so fast.
Tim ****
@Jack **********
did you use attorney?
Jack ***********
@Tim ***
I contacted one and he said it’s a waste of money. There wasn’t anything he could do. If you find someone please let me know. We can both hire him for a 2 for one. We tried tourist visa I wasn’t ready for fiancé visa. I think it’s a bad idea. Would like to spend time together first.
Tim ****

siam legal in bangkok, I use them for different things for the k1 visa i used pattita she kept everything organized and the whole process took less time then expected

IDK if that's even a good idea. Immigrants with permanent residency or those in the US legally going to their hearings are being rounded up, detained, and put in what basically amounts to camps.

Kasper Eriksen, a green card holder, who's been living in the US legally since 2013, is married to a US citizen, and has multiple children with her, has been detained at his nationalization hearing with no explanation in Mississippi.

Johnny Noviello, a Canadian citizen who had been a legal permanent resident since 1991, was detained by ICE for removal, and he died in custody.

Leonardo Garcia Venegas, a natural born US citizen was filming an ICE raid in Foley, AL (about 45 minutes from my US address). He was detained as illegal. He showed them his Real ID driver's license, which proves citizenship. The ICE officers laughed and told him it was fake (it wasn't) and detained him anyways.

Renato Subotic, an Australian citizen and head coach of the Australian MMA team, was planning to conduct a seminar in the US. He was detained due to a small error in his visa, held for 24 hours in a facility where he claims he had to fight other detainees, before being deported.

A 6 year old boy undergoing cancer treatment, his 9 year old sibling, and their mother were at an immigration hearing for asylum status when they were detained for deportation. They were trying to do things legally by asylum status. Now the child cannot get cancer treatment.

These are just a few cases. They're not looking for the "worst of the worst." They're detaining and deporting anyone they can. You can be here on legitimate business (like a seminar), be a permanent resident, or even a natural born citizen. Hell, they're talking about denaturalizing Zohran Mamdani just cause they're mad he won the NYC primary.

Even in the smaller city I'm from, Mobile, there's ICE raids and now none of the immigrants will show up to their jobs. Like I said, that citizen detained was only 45 minutes from my home in the US. I wouldn't feel safe bringing a non-citizen, especially one who's not white, into the US right now.

Your not going to get her a visa for here right now…

And it’s better to rent than try to own a Thai girl…

Taking this approach will save you so much stress and headaches

James *********
Dont do it she will suck you dry of all your funds and assetts and then move on to the next meal ticket, love, affection, sincerety, loyalty, respect, does not exist in the brains of any thai women. They care only about 3 things in their lives, 1 is family, 2 is getting as much as they can, as fast as they can, as they are greedy and only have a short shelf life, and money money and even more money. I talk from 22 years of living in thailand full timr. They are all the same, totally selfish, totally greedy, totally stupid. Yes they might look good on the outside, but inside their hearts and brains are shrivelled up like a 5 year old apple but they all fuck like they are a dead chicken, sleep all day, get pissed every night and tell lie after lie, you not being rich means that your fucked and she wont stay with you for long, sorry but thats the 100 % truth, all from personal experience

You might want to consider the K1 visa, which gives you 90 days to get married in the United States. My husband and I got married when we were in our 20s, and we were both quite young at the time. I had just graduated, and my husband was in the Navy, earning a modest income. He did pay taxes, though! If you pay taxes and can provide proof of income, that will help your case. I'm not entirely sure how much you need to earn to be eligible, but you can also include co-sponsor income to meet the requirements. Additionally, having no criminal record is important for the application process. Just keep in mind that you may need some money set aside to cover the paperwork. I believe the K1 visa is the best route to take. Avoid the tourist visa, as it could end up being a waste of money. Good luck.
Yve *****

Get a K1 finance Visa and get married in the states. I did it in 2017 and haven’t regretted it. You can do it yourself using Visa Journey where they have a step by step guide and forums to ask questions from others. Good luck.

There is no quick easy way. And if visas are processed in a similar manner to the last time trump was president, things are even harder than before. The non exclusive list of options are fiance visa, marriage visa, student visa, or there may be employment options for her depending on her qualifications and employer.
William ******
@Ray ********
how were they under Biden, and before 2016? It's always been next to impossible. I'm sorry, there's no cure for TDS
Ray *********
@William *****
it's never been next to impossible. It has just taken some time. And under trump, it takes even longer. Under trump, the worst part is the denial of work visas. For example, the Trump Administration has been denying visas for doctors arguing that doctors don't require bachelor's degrees.

It will not be easy. I like others here recommend marriage here first. It’s possible and worth it! I suggest joining:

Idk about US rules but it sure helps a lot if you marry in Thailand. Bang rak (Amphoe in Bangkok) is famous for that.

After that the marriage just needs to be registered at you embassy. And later an entry into your home country is thousand times simpler (at least for all European counties) !

Edit: Switzerland is sure one of the best countries when it comes to simple government paths

It took me 2 weeks to get all papers and my wife needed a little longer. Then we went to bang rak at 07:00 ( they accept only a few couples per day!).

Add on: make a prenup!!!

I prepared it via email with Siam-legal and we went to the office in Bangkok the day before marring (prenup must be there or it’s not accepted by Thai law!)
David *****
@Robert *******
do you need a prenup in your home country as well if the majority of your assets are left abroad? Thx for your advice.
Robert ********
@David ****
Without one you will need to prove what you had before in case of divorce. Otherwise everything that could have been acquired during the marriage would have to be split half half.
David *****
@Robert *******
really? It seems that bank, brokerage statements etc should suffice.

But which prenup takes precedent if I have her sign one from the US and one in Thailand but we get married in Thailand? And live in Thailand?

Having said all that, I do have an appointment with attorneys in Thailand this week to speak with them.
Ray *********
@Robert *******
very different process for the US.
Robert ********
@Ray ********
What do you mean?

If you’re married by Thai law, does the US not accept the marriage?

Or do you mean that bringing your wife into the country is as hard as bringing a girlfriend?

If you want to help, explain.
Ray *********
@Robert *******
foreign marriages are recognized. The issue is how long it takes to get the fiance/spouse into the US. In the US, you have to apply to bring your fiance (with the intent to get married) or wife (if already married) into the US. Both processes take several months assuming things go smoothly and there are no delays. There are also financial requirements that many people cannot satisfy.
Robert ********
@Ray ********
It sure takes time. I can understand that.

But I’m pretty sure it is extremely hard to bring a girlfriend, while the rules for wifes are easier.

A distant friend tried it with girlfriend and gave up after a year. He married her and got it done.
Ray *********
@Robert *******
correct. Unless you get a fiance visa to marry the gf once she is in the US, getting a tourist visa for a gf can be very hard, particularly if she is from Thailand. It is even harder if she doesn't have a good job, own a home and have significant ties to Thailand evidencing that she will return to Thailand.
Eric *********
It might be worth considering consulting with an immigration lawyer. Especially if you're not confident after some DIY research. My wife and I married in Thailand/obtained her permanent residency 37 years ago. At the time, it took about 8 months, lots of forms, a physical, police certificate and an interview. Not easy...but the last 37 years made it very worth while.
Mma *******
Apparently America and Australia can’t figure out who the bad guys and good guys are yet.

Despite generational contribution to the country- you’ll jump thru a few hoops getting your betrothed thru.

Whilst, down south at the border we not really sure whose entering. And we just bombed Iran. Welcome to Mr Upsidedown world.
Michael ***********
@Mma ******
Biden is gone buddy. No more open borders. The US is well aware NOW who is entering in. There's a new Sheriff in town now pal. Very few illegals in, but MANY getting deported now. That's what We The People voted for. Promises made, promises kept. Darn Skippy We bombed Iran. Just made the world a safer place. And Trump made it clear to Iran We will bomb again if they begin enriching uranium. Russia, China, N.Korea didn't buddy up and help Iran. They're on their own. And sanctions galore. Takes a LOT of money to rebuild their nuclear programs(and time). Iran is screwed in that respect now. They hold no cards.

Not going to happen unless she's from a wealthy Thai family and has business ties to Thailand and significant assets in her name. Unless you can buy her a Trump Gold Card. You might get a fiancee visa but it will take months and you so need to marry her within 6 months of her arrival.
Michael ***********
@Tony *********
Fiancé Visa (K-1) is the easiest route to take by far. Financial will be all on him. And it's not that much. He says they want to get married, so K-1 is a no-brainer. 90 days to get married after her arrival. If she puts in 5 years, she should be a U.S. citizen. She'll be eligible to receive his S.S. even if they move to Thailand to live. IMO it's by far the best option. Ironically, a K-2 Visa(married in Thailand in this case) will be a much slower process. Usually over 1 year. A K-1 is about 6 months, give or take. A lot of farangs dont see their Thai gf for 6 months or longer anyways. So no big deal.
Thomas ********
@Tony *********
it is married in 90 days from arrival
Steve *********
Good luck. As high as 90% rejection rate for young love applicants. She would have to show overwhelming evidence that she has more reason to return to Thailand than to remain in the U.S. Land, property, investments, standing in the community, education - and (here's the catch) a good job with salary and benefits that she has permission from to take vacation leave to travel. Everything presented will be checked and double-checked, so no need to try and stuff her bank with a large deposit. This is a very long shot, so look at what Plan B will be.
Michael ***********
@Steve ********
Not so if it's a Fiancé Visa (K-1). The K-1 is the easiest way by far. He says he wants to marry her so that would be the way to go. How much she makes isnt even looked at. Financial support lies with him. And it isnt that much
Steve *********
@Michael **********
- long wait though. Could be 2 years. Examination of the veracity of the length and seriousness of the relationship is part of the vetting process and in separate interviews. If they are definitely serious, yes, they should try that. No guarantees with that either.
Daren *********
Good advice apart from stuffing her account with cash. That would be foolish in my opinion.
