Thank you for accepting me. My girlfriend who I plan on marrying is from Thailand. We meet here in the states as she was a J1 at the Marriott in Florida. We are looking for advise, tips and more to help us along the way. I will be traveling to Bangkok early I'm 2020. Has anyone gone thru the paperwork to get a no obligation rule for their J1 towards a K1 visa? Thanks in advance!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author is seeking advice on the process for transitioning from a J1 visa to a K1 visa as he plans to marry his Thai girlfriend. They are looking for tips and guidance on the paperwork involved, specifically regarding the no obligation rule related to the J1 visa. Comments from the community highlight that while a K1 visa might require significant documentation and a lengthy process, it can be easier than applying for a spousal visa after marriage. The process typically takes 8-9 months or more.

It will take about 8-9 months (sometimes more). The problem with a K1 is you still need to change over the visa later. You have a few options but all will be a long process with a lot of documents...

I definitely can not give advice. But when I looked into it a few years ago, it appeared easiest to get a fiance visa (her to come to the USA) than a wife visa -- just something to consider.
