What is the process for certifying a British passport?

2 years ago I was told to go to the British Embassy. I believe this is no longer possible.

It has to be done by Apostille?

I am in UK at the moment travel to stay with my wife in Udon Thani.

What is the process if in UK, I have differing advice from various sources.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for certifying a British passport has changed, and while it used to be done at the British Embassy, it is now generally handled through an Apostille. If you are currently in the UK, you may need to contact the British Embassy or Consulate for specific instructions and to understand any fees or requirements, such as the £25 charge mentioned for certified copies.

Try and explain why you would need it certified. Something other than a visa?

Same as Australian Embassy. 800 THB, on the spot in Bangkok.

Even AMP, my superannuation fund, required that to move my funds into a foreign bank (Japan).

I'm not sure what that means, "certifying a British passport."

What exactly are you trying to accomplish in Thailand?

The Udon Thani ministry office requires me to certify my passport in the application of a yellow housebook.

I think they normally want a "certified" translation. Which means a translation company does the translation and then certifies that it's accurate. And then possibly you need to get something done at the MFA after that, but I'm not sure on that part. You should be involved in the translation process if you want to influence the Thai spelling of your name.
