I've just been informed by immigration that for a TYPE-0 visa application my British passport has to be authenticated by the British Embassy otherwise the application for TYPE-0 based on Thai Spouse will be rejected? I've not seen this posted anywhere on this site.. anyone had to do this also?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has raised concerns about needing to authenticate their British passport at the British Embassy for a Type-O visa application based on their Thai spouse. Comments suggest confusion regarding the validity of the passport for visa applications versus other uses, such as address registration. I understand you like to keep this post open but than keep to the facts. You had a work permit and Extension of Stay from the one stop service of the BOI. You went to cancel this at the normal Immigration Office, as you posted and discussed this a few days ago. You got the advice to visit the one stop service center of the BOI again to deal with that as it normally is handled that way. Now you claim about passport problems, but you did not even visit the Immigration Office. As I mentioned before, you have to go in person to apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage OR the 60 days Extension of Stay based on marriage. Not sending your wife with your passport.

I guess because your marriage certificate is not in Thai you will need your passport and/or married certificate translated into Thai and legalized. When getting married in Thailand you same need your passport translated and legalized. Maybe your Embassy will do both translation and legalization. Maybe it also needs to be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Those of us staying for long have tried the route back and forth Embassy and Ministry again and again. The Ministry has a translation service which is acceptable by the Ministry. They do it while you wait.

, yes, sometimes Thailand is an experience. I have a non-O multiple entry visa. I have been using such for years without problems. Then suddenly I could not return to Thailand on my 90-day visa run, and was told it was a single entry visa. When teaching the officer about the "M", she got offended and sentenced me to stay one night out of Thailand...

I’ll keep this thread updated... my wife just asked the question to IO officer as she was there... we have not applied for the 90 day extension... that’s yet to come... we have done 3 IO office visits already... trying to cancel WP and it’s Extension of stay... so how come my passport was good enough for a work permit but not a extension to stay, as they have the same passport requirements regarding authentic status...

To apply for a visa you need to go in person. Your wife can not apply, now I understand the confusion in handling with passport. Address registration or even the 90 day report is no problem to sent another with your passport. But not for applications for Visa or Extension of Stay.

Ok in that case my idea of why they are looking to get the passport verified is irrelevant if you actually applied directly in the UK

they do it, 50 quid

If you really do need to get that passport notarized, are you certain the UK Embassy in Bangkok will do it before you waste your time? I say that because there is very little they will notorise there any longer. 99% of documents need to be done in London.

Or was it only your wife carrying your passport, as she did manage to do the address registration?

My marriage documents have already been authenticated by the Singapore Embassy, Bangkok as we married in Sungapore additionally the first available appointment is the 23 of April so I can no way meet the minimum 15 days for the application and I'll be over the 30 days for a tourist VISA -- this just does not make sense, in effect it is impossible to do!! I'm stunned dead on this.
Robert *******
Just as guess, are you sure it was not your English marriage documents which has to be authenticated.
