I’m a little confused

I’m starting my application process to retire in Thailand.

I am online filling out the application and when it comes to purpose of visit, I see several options for a particular visa, and I’m not sure which one applies to me

I keep hearing 90 day Non-O Visa

Well, that’s not a direct option.

There is the following choices

* O-A

* O-X

* Retirement for foreigners aged 50 or older (who wish to stay NO longer than 90 days

Thank you

Answer summary
The user is attempting to apply for a retirement visa in Thailand but is confused about the options available. They encounter choices such as O-A, O-X, and a 90-day retirement visa for foreigners aged 50 or older, which leads to questions about which option applies to them. Most community responses clarify that the 90-day Non-O visa is commonly used for retirement and provides a pathway to long-term stay through extensions. Several comments offer insights on requirements and processes, suggesting that the Non-O is the simplest option and guiding the user on further steps like bank deposits and how to apply for extensions.

The 3rd option. 90 day single entry non immigrant O is the one you want.

Hey Bradley. Assuming you are not in Thailand Non O is the easiest in my opinion.

Hi Bradley, the 90 days is tied in with Non-O Retirement visa. When you opt for Non-O, you'll be issued with 90 days visa which will kick in the day you arrive in Thailand.

In the event you do not wish to extend 12 months, you can choose to leave on or before your 90 days expire. You are not required to bank in 800K either.

Barath Faust No the 90 day validity is from the date of issue and entering Thailand on any of those days gets a 90 day permitted to stay stamp, the visa at that point is finished

Graham Seal, I understand but seems Bradley is looking for direct option to obtain the 90 day visa, he can't. He has to opt for Non-O in order to receive the 90 days visa. That's what I get from his post 'Well, that’s not a direct option'.

The O-A is a multi entry one year visa applied for in your home country but requires you get a police printout, a medical certificate and Thai health insurance. With the O you get 90 days and you need to get a Thai phone number, and a TM30 print out and depending on the bank or branch a resident certificate to open a Thai bank account and deposit ฿800,000 for two months before you can apply for a one year extension of permission to stay in the Kingdom based on retirement. No, health insurance required or police check or medical certificate.

Jim McGowan I need to correct you. The O/A Visa can be applied for with a foreign or international health insurance. It doesn't have to be a Thai insurance. At least not in the theoretically possible first two years. Only when you apply for the extension, it needs to be a Thai tgia-listed insurance

Jim McGowan I also read that if you have ฿65,000 income a month you qualify? Does that need to be also deposited into a Thai bank?

Heidi Reger for the application to the Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa and for the Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa, you can upload original income documentation into the E-Visa online system, which proves that you have more than equivalent of 65,000 THB monthly income. However once you apply for the 1-year extension of the stay permit on Immigration, out of both the O or the O/A visa, you would either need an income affidavit by your embassy, or, if your embassy does not issue such an affidvit, you could use a 12-months bank statement over 12 months of accumulated consecutive transfers from abroad into your Thai bank account over a minimum of 65,000 THB, month for month not missing a single month

Heidi Reger depends on what country you are from and if your embassy in Thailand provides a letter certifying that income. If they don't which most, like the UK, US, Canada, and Australia don't, then you must use the deposit of ฿800,000 must be used for the first year at least. The second year if your Thai bank account shows monthly deposits of ฿65K for the previous year it may be accepted depending on the immigration office you are applying at. Some will, some won't.

It’s worded that way because the visa is for 90 days but as John Stanners explained , that allows you to open a bank account and deposit the funds required for a twelve month extension ; the other options have more requirements , compulsory health insurance etc.
Jason *******

Michael Purdy how soon can you get a multiple entry permit after first arriving in that 90 day period before extension? Can you get extension leave soon after arriving if need be?
Ivan ************
Ivan ************
Jason the 800k needs to be in an account for 2 months prior to the application for an extension. So if you get the account open and the money in in the first week, you would need to wait until it had been there 2 months (i.e. three weeks left) before the extension.

Individual offices also have limits on how soon you can apply for an extension (in case you already happened to have an account with the money in it), Chiang Mai and Bangkok are 45 days, some are 30 days.

It is not common but you can technically apply for a re-entry permit the day you arrive, that will let you go out and come back on the same stamp. So you could arrive, open a bank account, deposit the money, get a re-entry permit (can be done at the airport), leave, come back 2 months later and apply directly for your extension.

You would need to get a new re-entry permit then after getting the extension, they are per stamp/extension.
Graham ******

Jason Eades why would you need a multiple re-entry permit on a 90 day stamp for 3800B when you can get a single entry one for 1000B?

All 3 options are referred to as retirement visas. The 3rd one is the most common, you get a 90 day Non-O visa and when you arrive in Thailand you open a bank account, put a minimum of 800k baht in it and apply for a 12 month extension of stay
