90 day, single entry, Non-O visa (retirement/marriage)

For a good number of years we've been advising people to come here free stamp (visa exempt), open a bank account, transfer in the required funds and then apply for a 90 day Non-O visa in country at your immigration office.

Sadly, with the changes to the way banks allow accounts to be opened now, it is almost impossible to open a bank account on a free stamp (visa exempt) entry ๐Ÿ˜•

We are now going to suggest people who want to do year retirement or marriage extensions once they're here to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa in your country BEFORE you come here via the thai eVisa online web-portal

There are several advantages to this.

1 - you can show proof of funds in a bank in your country to get the initial visa issued from a thai consulate.

2 - it makes it WAY easier to open a bank account if you come in on a Non-O 90 day visa.

These are the requirements for the 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) and the requirements for the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai national

AND

These are the choices you would select on the eVisa online system

Does the permission to stay 90 days in Thailand start to go when visa is granted by consulate or when the person enters to Thailand?

90 days stay starts on the day you are stamped into Thailand (I.e. arrival date). A Single entry non-immigrant type visa is valid for 90 days from issued date to enter Thailand to get 90 days entry stamp.

What if you have a bank account in Thailand would you still need to get that visa or could you come on Visa exempt

Arriving on a Non-O means that you don't need proof of onward travel and don't need to go through the hoops of obtaining your bank letter, statement etc. for your Non-O then doing the same 3 months later for your first extension. Also a Non-O obtained in Thailand has to be extended first time at the same Immigration Office that issued the Non-O so you are constrained somewhat.

If you already have a thai bank account in your name only
@Steve *******
you could indeed come in visa exempt, get the funds in the bank and then apply for the in country Non-O visa at the immigration office where you live/stay.

If you already have a bank account and meet the funds requirements, it's easy to convert. Just be sure to have the money in the account for the prerequisite time and leave it there all the way through the extension process and beyond.

If i'm to apply for the Non-O visa in Australia,i would prefer the option of showing the equivalent of 65k thai baht going into my account instead of 800k held for 3 months.Does this 65k p/m need to be from a pension or can it be from salary as i'll be working right upto leaving for Thailand? If so,is it still 3 months bank statements still or 12 months?

you can't get the first year extension inside the country showing monthly income,

Your only option is to bank the 800k in a Thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension.

The following year you could use monthly income if you transferred in 65k per month, each month, every month, for the previous 12 months

It also saves at least 2 trips to the immigration office, which can be long ordeals depending on where you live.

I forgot to add you're also able to come here free stamp, then travel to a thai consulate in a nearby country and apply for the 90 day Non-O visa (showing proof of funds in your country as well).

Remember though you can't be in thailand when you apply and as a rule you have to stay IN that country until the visa is approved/rejected..

is it possible to list the Embassies/Consulates (and Land Borders in case of travelling by road to a nearby country) which are the easiest and most difficult to deal with based upon current knowledge? Also if known, approximate times for each, that it takes to get Visas approved?

Sadly it is not :O you're going to have to search yourself

and

none of them are really all that bad to deal with if you're getting 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement/marriage

no one really has issues getting OUT by a land border when they say they're going to a consulate to apply for a visa.

Nong Khai got really hard on people wanting to bounce out/back just to get a new 60 day free stamp

what about crossing land borders to apply for a Visa? I've heard the odd mention of Vientienne being a difficult border crossing, but that may only be for those exiting/re-entering on Visa Exempt. When a legal matter that I'm involved in reaches a conclusion, hopefully very soon, I'd be relocating to lower- northern Thailand (no Airport close), approximately 3.5 to 4 hours north of Bangkok, and travelling Vientienne seems as good an option as any to get a Visa.
