Best approach to move to Thailand, please suggest 🙏🏽

So my wife and I are trying to decide what might be the best approach to move to Thailand.

We have around 800000 TBH in our savings, so if the rule for 1mil TBH for couples is applicable, then we are a little short on that.

My wife has steady yearly contracts with her clients in Germany. I am a day trader and just in between setting-up my online business. Our initial plan was that she would apply for her DTV and then I would apply as a Dependent. But since we are short of the 1mil TBH mark, what might be the best approach visa wise ?

Also, we are selling our house in Bali and would have funds available, but only towards the end of the year :( but we want to move by July.

A friend recommended for her to apply for the DTV and for me to apply for METV. But since we will be moving with our doggos, I dont want to have any hassle at Immigration justifying the move.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be a massive help 🙏🏽
Answer summary
A couple is seeking advice on the best approach to moving to Thailand, as they have limited funds (800,000 THB) and want to apply for relevant visas. They are considering a Digital Visa (DTV) for the wife while the husband would apply as a dependent. Suggestions from the community include exploring different visa types, including the Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), finding an agent to help with the process, ensuring the proper funds are in their bank account, and focusing initially on the wife's DTV application before proceeding with the dependent visa.

Maybe you can just borrow from another family member to have enough. And apply from a country/ embassy that doesn't require seasoned funds.

Since you will both work remotely from Thailand you each need to apply for your own DTV based on Workation to do so legally. Wait until you have the money then apply.

Then you're destined to not have any application and DTV entry experience. Maybe you should get another hobby? Wordle perhaps?

understanding visa requirements and how they relate to the reality of the law is fun. There's so much misinformation out there from those that choose to misinterpret reality.

I bet you're fun at parties!

But you are correct a lot of people need to pipe down about subjects they have no knowledge on.

This is from a soft power application. So your opinion is wrong like I've told you multiple times.

just looks like a standard response used for all DTV applications of any sort to me

I'm retired. No need for a DTV.

Maybe you'll have more DTV knowledge when you get one.

And "only" then. 👍

At this point just go to Cambodia and buy the 10 year CM2H visa and after 5 years you’re eligible for citizenship

It’s a lot easier and has way more benefits than the DTV

Business visas are super easy in Cambodia as well

But you can always try the Thailand route

Thanks for the insights about Cambodia. We definitely have our eyes set on Thailand as it ticks a lot of our boxes. Will apply for the visa and hopefully it works out.

DTV_Begpacker I have spent years cumulatively in Cambodia. It's a nice country to visit. I wouldn't want to live there permanently, it also has a lot of issues that Thailand doesn't have.

Higher crime rate, a lot of stuff that just works (most of the time) in Thailand like electricity and internet is more patchy in Cambodia. Still works most of the time, but more frequent outages than here.

I have been in hospital in both countries, in particular, and that one is a big problem in Cambodia.

I am also currently staying as a dependent under my wife's DTV. Since it has been over a year since I went through the process, I don't remember all the exact details.

However, if I were in your shoes, here is the step-by-step approach I would take:

1. Apply for her DTV first: Focus entirely on getting your wife's primary visa approved before doing anything else.

2. Transfer the funds: Once her DTV is successfully approved, transfer the required funds into your own bank account.

3. Wait for three months: Keep the money in your account for about three months to establish a solid financial record.

4. Apply for the Dependent Visa: After the three-month waiting period, go ahead and submit your application for the dependent visa.

This seems like a solid plan to consider!

BrilliantMouse3131 Thanks a lot for the suggestion. As your rightly said, will first focus on sorting her visa out and plan it from there :)

DM me if you’d like a referral to a legitimate visa agent. She’s a personal friend and co-owns her law firm. I was just having lunch in BKK with her two weeks ago when I was in Thailand. I won’t post her info here. She works with super high net worth and not high net worth clients from all over the world for helping them move to all over Thailand. If you’d like more info shoot me a dm and I’d be happy to respond. Good luck on your journey

Only DTV allows remote work so coming in on a non-immigration O visa and still doing contracts remotely and setting up online business. Sure it is hard for Thai government to track your outside employment. But if you annoy the wrong person and they complain about you working without a permit. They would be correct and the penalties are not good.

It sounds like you are both digital nomads. I read somewhere that you can have two DTVs back to back. So 10 years coverage.

GreyElephant🐘 you're probably thinking of the LTR, that is 2x 5yr visas. Maybe possible to get another DTV after, maybe not. It would be a fresh application and currently there's no indication you couldn't but we won't know until the first people try to get a second one.

GreyElephant🐘 there's NO guarantee about the back to back issue of the DTV visa.

GreyElephant🐘 Appreciate your input. Definitely dont want to do anything which is incorrect by the regulations. Just got some more validation that our DTV's should be good.

I do not think all embassies require the extra money for the dependent. What I mean is that the primary can sponsor the dependent. Have a search in the group. I think it's been covered.
