Opinion needed; I just got approved by my job to work international remote, and started looking into the 5 year DTV.

I am currently in the US and would be traveling with my wife, who would apply as a dependant. I fill all the financial requirements.

A friend of mine currently in Thailand put me in touch with a visa service business there, who quoted me 8000 Baht,* per person*, just for the application organizing/reviewing/submitting process.

This seems a little pricy, but I have not gone through this specific application process myself before. If it was 8k I woud probably do it just for the peace of mind, but at 16k plus the actual application cost, I really have doubts on whether it's worth it.

Any opinions? (thanks in advance)...
Answer summary
The question revolves around whether it's worth hiring a visa service for the 5-year DTV application, which costs 8,000 Baht per person. The user feels this is pricey, especially as they can meet the financial criteria for the visa. Comments from the community suggest that the application process is straightforward and can be managed independently. Many recommend doing it yourself to save costs, pointing out that the fee is minimal compared to the general costs of visa services, and advise using resources like AI tools for guidance.

Definitely do not pay an agent even close to that amount to do this.

You can scroll through this group and see exactly what other people in your position in your country have done to get approved. And you can read about general advice from everyone.

And if you want someone to look through everything before you apply and guide you through it, I just did that for my American friend and he got his DTV approved in 5 days.

I would not ask for 16,000 baht for that though

Do it yourself and use Chat GPT to guide you. The hardest part is getting a certificate of incorporation for your company. Chat GPT will help you find that too.

You can do it yourself. It’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have all the right documents and you’ll be fine. Double the required fund if you have a joint account. I’d save the 16k and put that towards your first month rent 🤷‍♂️

You can do it yourself, just use ChatGPT / Claude / your fave AI. Also apply from your local embassy

You don't need an agent for the process however 8,000 THB (+ the visa fee) is almost nothing for a 5 years visa with service in Thailand.

I agree it's a good deal, but if this is an unnecessary expense why would I opt for it? I would prefer to not pay ~500 USD extra for no apparent benefit.

if you don’t have to spend 8000 baht then why spend 8000 baht tho

That's what I say, no need to spend it for an agent service. But if required, the price is still pretty cheap in comparison to what people are charged for Non-immigrant visas.

It is easy to do yourself, but 8,000baht is next to nothing. If you are unsure of spending that little money reconsider your whole plan.

If I give away money I would rather give it to a charity. This isn't about what I can or can't afford, thanks.

this isn’t gaslighting - it’s just stating a fact that 12,000tbt equals approx US$240

You have a remote job, your company approves of you working in Thailand so easy to DIY. Apply, once approved submit your wife's application as a dependent. You can find everything you need for a successful application in this group.
