I (Dutchman and 67) want to go to Thailand for cycling in December for 90 days. So confused about which visa I must have. Some say that you can be stopped at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, because you have a Non-O visa for 90 days, while 60 days is the maximum.

Then there is the question: do I buy a flightticket for 90 days, while there is the risk that Thailand does not allow people with a visa for three months, but only 30 or 60 days? I want to be sure that I can buy a ticket with the guarantee that I, as a tourist, am welcome in Thailand. I can show that my income is sufficient.

I have been in Thailand several times, but only for one month. Now that I am retired I can -and want - to stay there for a longer time. Never problems with a visa at arrival, but now I don’t know anymore. I hear so many confusing things about visas.
Answer summary
A 67-year-old Dutchman is seeking advice on which visa to apply for in order to spend 90 days cycling in Thailand. There is confusion regarding the maximum duration of stay for different types of visas, particularly the 30-day and 60-day tourist visas versus the 90-day Non-O visa. Several comments suggest that the Non-O visa is the best option, as it permits a full 90-day stay without the need for extensions. There are also concerns about safety while cycling in Thailand, with some commenters advising against it due to traffic dangers.

If unsure about flight tickets buy a Flexi and change return flight if you need to.

It’s one option 🤔👍🏻

I do not recommend cycling through Thailand. In Thailand, even walking is dangerous. Many Thais and farangs drivers are driving very uncarefully. They do not care what is behind or in front.

Young Sorry that’s nonsense. Plenty of people cycle in Thailand, particularly outside Bangkok. Recently I met a couple on two bikes with children in trailers cycling along the banks of the Mekong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Non-O 90 day only for those applying for the long term Non-O visa? There was a time when you could eek-out 90 days on the Visa Exempt.

I think a METV visa (180 days, multi-entry) is the right visa for your trip. I used that for two years before applying for my Non-O as a spouse.

Shawn Sheely The problem with the METV is that it is limited to 60 days at a time, after which the person would have to leave and come back. If this person wants an uninterrupted 90 day stay, it wouldn't meet their requirements.

You can extend the METV by 30 days for a total of 90.

Shawn Sheely It's not only for that purpose. A lot of people use it that way, but it's a perfectly valid visa on its own.

I think, looking at things, it will be 30 by the end of the month. I am expecting it in the next Royal listing. I would suggest that anyone coming here in the future consider Non O the safest bet. It gives you a little flexibility

Christian Frere Nobody knows yet, when the new rule will take effect. It has to be officially posted in the Royal Gazette and only once that occurs, it will become law.

Christian Frere It's not 30 yet, but might be by October. Look into an SETV which will give you 60 days.

Simpel, in Nederland een 90 dagen visum aanvragen binnen 5 dagen geregeld, ik kan u wel helpen als dat nodig is.

Peter Crama misschien even verduidelijken: een non-immigrant O retirement visum aanvragen. Dat visum geeft je 90 dagen. Een toeristen visum is beperkt tot 60 dagen (kan wel met 30 dagen verlengd worden, maar daar ben je bij vertrek niks mee).

. . . . . and one more word about your plan to cycle in Thailand. Keep in mind that this is VERY DANGEROUS. For many Thai truck- and car drivers, you are the "perfect victim". You would need a pair of eyes in the back of your head, to be relatively safe. And always expect the unexpected. NEVER ride in the dark!

Nongnuch Kamdee I spent 8 weeks cycling through Thailand from North to South. No problems with cars or trucks. In fact they are friendlier than in my country. As far as the dogs are concerned they are just a small nuisance

If you can fulfill the financial requirements for an application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, then apply for it!

It is your BEST option for a 90-days holiday.

You will get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. You do not need to do a border bounce, or apply for a 30-days extension.

In case your return flight is within these 90 days, the airline will NOT ask you for an onward travel proof if you show them this 90-days visa.

Be careful and do a correct count. The day of entry is day number one. You must have left Thailand by midnight exactly 90 days later.

Up from 72 hours prior to your planned arrival, fill out the online TDAC digital arrival card and submit it. The departure field and the visa number are no mandatory fields.

Greg Alexander Small remark: With a non imm. O or OA visa, you don't need any return flight.

Peter Van Eindhoven read again: He wants to do a holiday of 90 days. His topic is if he can fly visa-exempt or on a tourist visa with a return flight close to 90 days. NO he should NOT do that. That's why I recommend to get the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa, because on this visa he definitely can fly with a return 90 days later. And yes, of course he could even fly one-way, but that was not asked

Get the Non-O visa. You will get 90 days, you won't need to visit immigration for an extension, you won't have any problems flying out of the Netherlands

You’ve got some wires crossed. The 60-day limit concerns tourist entries. If you’re over 50, you can apply for a 90-day Non-O visa and stay for the full 90 days without any issue.
