Hoping for some helpful advice here regarding long term visa options.

Im a USA citizen, of the pacific NW, USA... I've been wintering in Thailand about 4 months per year for 12 years. I spend majority time in Koh Chang. Several times previously I've gotten a multi entry tourist visa (METV) which required a trip to Los Angeles Thailand Consulate for same day turn around. It worked then, but a hassle. In February 2020, while in Thailand, I went through the expensive process of getting by retirement visa. Then, COVID happened. Because I was unable to travel to Thailand the following winter, my retirement visa became useless. Im exploring my options now for going forward, planning to continue four+ months per year. Im currently booked for Dec-March. I'm 60 years old with sufficient income to meet financial requirements. I just want to go to koh chang 3-4 months and not have to do a international trip to renew my visa. I have an active BK bank account already. There is so much conflicting information that I'm bewildered........ my first option is to get another retirement visa. Before, it was only possible to get a retirement visa in-country... is that still the same? Is it possible to get before I leave? Second option, hire a service, go thru the hassle again in Pattaya or Bangkok after I arrive. Third option, go to Los Angeles and get another METV. My travel booking stay period is around 115 days. Any help or advise from someone with knowledge is much appreciated! My previous go-to guy on Koh Chang, Roel, is unfortunately no longer with us. Appreciate mak mak any intelligent advice!
Answer summary
A US citizen who has been spending four months a year in Thailand is seeking advice on long-term visa options after their previous retirement visa became invalid due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. They are considering applying for a new retirement visa or a Non-O visa, and exploring whether they can obtain these before leaving the US or upon arrival in Thailand. Several commenters suggest opting for a 90-day Non-O visa, which can be extended for a year after maintaining a specified amount of money in a Thai bank account. Alternatives such as using a visa agent or obtaining a multi-entry tourist visa (METV) are also discussed.
