TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 is a report that informs Thai authorities about the presence of a foreigner staying at a specific address. It must be filed by the property owner within 24 hours of the foreigner's arrival in Thailand. This report is necessary for visa extensions, as immigration will often require it. Hotels and landlords can easily update the TM30 report online, and it is essential for managing a foreigner's residency status in Thailand.

I thought this site was for asking questions of people in the know Jeff Schott sorry my mistake
Its basically a website that tracks where you are staying in thailand, any hotel or landlord can update it for you on the website, just ask them for a tm 30 if they dont know about it, google search “tm 30 thailand webpage” its the first result , and have them update it for uou where your staying.

So am I right in saying
For a extension of visa i can request a copy of my
there's no official hard copy of the TM30 that hotels file. All they can do is go back into the online system and search for the entry they made for you.
It would look like the 2nd item in the photo.

Check website for Samui immigration, says 38. Most commercial establishments file the notification electronically and it is known as a section 38 report and that is that immigration say you need. It is the same.
no they won’t. They’ll ask you for a TM30 which is the part of Section 38 of the Thai immigration act that mentions that house owners, landlords, hotel managers and such notify the presence of foreigners on their property.
just out of curiosity, does that apply to those on a short visit on a tourist visa? If so, is there any responsibility on the part of the tourist to make sure that it is done?
that's complicated. The only time you'll ever need a TM30 is if you're going to immigration for something. So if you're only here for a few weeks and won't be applying for an extension then realistically you don't need to worry about TM30. Legally it's still supposed to be filed.
As far as who needs to worry about it, it's the property owner's responsibility, but if you show up to immigration without it, you're the one that's going to get fined and they might not process your request until it's done (plus the fine) so the foreigner has a vested interest in seeing that it's done.
When I used to come on shorter term visits so only used AirBNB but knew I'd need a TM30, I would message the host before I booked to ask if they would file TM30. Many Airbnb hosts will not.
I was in Thailand for just under 3 weeks last October and didn't know anything about this. Stayed at 4 different accommodations, including 1 night in Bangkok upon arrival & no issues. I'll probably be there again for a similar length in time this November.
this is why hotels take a copy of your passport data page-it is so that they can send this to immigration to report the TM30 for you and other guests

Dianne Lee thanks for that info. Last year when booking into hotels, I didn't ask, but wondered why they did that. I assumed some kind of government requirement or a security reason.
