DTV soft power London employment advice please

Hey☺️ Can someone help me please!! I’m really confused as I’ve seen people saying to select unemployed as I won’t be working in Thailand.

I am a bank nurse in the UK I just won’t be working whilst I’m away so I am employed in the UK.

What have you guys put on your application ? Or do you have any advice ?

Thanks ❤️

A user is seeking advice on whether to indicate they are unemployed on their visa application, given that they will not be working in Thailand, despite being employed as a bank nurse in the UK. Community responses offer various suggestions, including stating employment status while clarifying that they will take a career break and have sufficient funds to support their stay. Some recommend indicating unemployed, while others emphasize the importance of detailing financial support and employment status.

I wrote a brief covering letter stating I worked freelance but would not undertake work in Thailand and would remain in the UK until processing of visa had completed. Highlighted in yellow income on bank statements. They want to know you can support yourself and you won’t work in Thailand and take employment away from locals.

I was unemployed but put down retired as I am 59.I choose a Thai cookery course,it's weekends for best part of 6 months but no problem as long as you have the 500k .

I would tick unemployed, I did my application via Muay Thai but was still working here until I left and was staying on bank. Mine was rejected not sure if that’s why. If you’re going soft power I would now tick unemployed

CopperSloth2786 they asked for nothing, it said documents pending for 12 working days then I got a rejection

You can put down employed but detail that you are taking a career break, not working in Thailand and show sufficient funds to cover your stay beyond the 500K.

okay thankyou for the advice. So I should add a cover letter to my finances documents. I guess I’m anxious they will see employed and deny me instantly!

Anonymous participant You can also put unemployed as you will be in Thailand. I know similar to you, who took a career break for the DTV, they put unemployed with a cover letter detailing finances/career break for the DTV.

okay thankyou. It’s so confusing 😂 as technically I will be employed still in the uk but just not working whilst there. I don’t want to risk being denied without being able to explain my circumstances and from what I’ve read ticking unemployed with a cover letter seems the safest option … thanks so much for your help ! Fingers crossed ☺️

Show you have a bucketful of ready cash in excess of the 500k baht which you are going to use to live.

I had a similar situation, I've put my current employment, when they asked how I was going to support myself in Thailand I told them that I will not be working, I'm taking a career break. Then show them enough savings to cover my stay.

I was approved a few days later

OP
SparklyCelery7812 so you did select employed in that section ? Did you write any cover letters etc ? Thanks so much for replying

Anonymous participant yes I did select employed and added my current employment details.

Because I'm not British, as part of the application I had to send a letter from my employer and 3 payslip, I think this is a requirement from the London embassy for non British applicants.

Lastly they sent me a request for extra documents asking me to explain how I was going to support myself. So I uploaded a cover letter explaining that I'm currently employed, won't be working in Thailand and I will support myself using my savings, I sent them a PDF of the statements of all my savings and investments accounts, I was approved few days/weeks later with no further requests

SparklyCelery7812 okay thankyou so much for your help !! I am stressing what the best thing to put is😅🤣 have seen a few people say they were instantly denied and believe it’s because they selected employed .. so I’m in two minds. I appreciate you taking the time to respond ☺️

no I will not be working remotely or at all whilst in Thailand. :)

Anonymous participant if on sabbatical or career break, a letter from employer would be useful. In any case, if applying as unemployed, you would need to establish how you would support yourself..eg savings, stock trading, rental income etc..

OP
Partly_enlightened I do nursing shifts but I choose as and when I work hence why I can have so much time off to do the Muay Thai course. So technically I am employed with my nursing shifts but it’s basically a 0 hour contract. I’ve also got money from stock trades and renting out also as other forms of income so I’m thinking maybe I select unemployed explaining I will not be working in Thailand but this is how I will support myself and what I do in the UK 🤔 really in two minds what the best thing to do is haha. Thankyou for the advice much appreciated ☺️☺️

They are not going to work remotely, just do SP while taking a break from nursing in the UK.
