TLDR : Answer Summary
The term 'self-insurance' typically refers to not having traditional health insurance and instead paying for medical expenses out of pocket. This can be achieved by having sufficient funds saved to cover potential hospital bills. Several community members discussed their health insurance experiences in Thailand, emphasizing the challenges older adults face in obtaining insurance and the importance of using trustworthy insurance agents. They also provided recommendations for insurance providers and urged caution in selecting insurance options.

Please get your insurance through someone you trust. There have been cases where the agent collects the money, but doesn't do the paperwork.

Many people who are older, or have pre-existing conditions can’t get insurance in Thailand at any price, or subject to exclusions.

Even if you have a seven figure USD net worth, Thailand still requires insurance for some visa types.

If the hospitals were smart, they would offer their own high deductible catastrophe plan.

Try AXA, if you mean self insurance, it just means you have enough money in your bank account to pay and cover any hospital bills which may arise.

Health insurance wise at your age is a bit tricky but I found Udon Brokers offered WRLife at 5000 a month with no contribution to payments (many companies insist on you paying 10% of the total costs ). In the end I went for Liberty at

baht for the year with a 100k contribution but I covered that with a 100,000 accident and sickness policy with Allianz at 6900 for the year.

Pm me if you want any more info. I don’t work for any insurance company so I am completely unbiased.

You won't get much for your money in Thailand

Use the government hospitals you will have to pay but it's a lot cheaper than private hospitals or insurance

MUCH cheaper

Have a look on Mr Prakan for all your Thailand insurance requirements

You can compare policies and prices in it from the leading providers

Is that a typo and you mean self insurance? If so it just means you don't get insurance and pay as needed out of your own funds
