Hi!

Looking to get a tourist eVisa. I am seeing conflicting information, so I would like to ask a few questions, please.

1. Timeframe - How early before we travel to Thailand can we apply?

2. Eligibility - when it asks you current location, does it mean your current residence or where you physically are at the moment? (We are from the US but will be in Mexico for a short time for tourism right during the time frame I think we might need to apply for the Thai evisa. Do we put US since that is our residence?)

3. Upload documentation - they list different items on their website, than in the evisa manual, than I have seen people mention on forum posts. For evisa -

Is Travel Booking Documentation your air ticket, and do you need to upload your ticket to leave too?

Do you have to upload your accommodations bookings and do they have to cover your whole time?

What is the declaration?

Thank you so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
User Les inquires about applying for a Thai tourist eVisa while currently in Mexico, asking about the appropriate application timeframe, eligibility criteria concerning current location, and necessary documentation for the application. The responses clarify that applications can be made 90 days before travel, advise on which residence to state, outline expected documentation like travel and accommodation bookings, and mention the importance of providing accurate details for the application.

You can simply enter Thailand on the basis of Visa exemption as you're an American passport holder.

But for stays between 30 & 90 days, the touristvisa is the better option.

And the recommend way to do it, by Embassies

Yes, and a lot of hassle too. It's better to enter on an visa exempt, extend for once and do a border bounce and extend again.

It’s more hassle to find a Immigration office in another country, get transport to go there, and wait sometimes for hours, losing the better part of a day of holidaytime.

And then there are the onward ticket question, where you need 2 for 30 + 30 days, but only 1 for for 60 day touristvisa.

And a visa is cheaper, than a extension with the extra cost for transport etc.

I prefer sitting comfortably in my excellent home office and use 30 minutes to apply for a 60 day touristvisa.

Are there other uploads needed? Their manual does not show much. Do we need a copy of our bank statement? Anything else?

Also I guess we need to do this separately for each of us?

just start the application instead of asking a million questions

Excellent synopsis

It’s recommended to apply 2-4 weeks before departure.

The applications is processed by the departurdate, so the visa will arrive 1-2 weeks before departure, so nothing gained by applying earlier.

we will be in Mexico on vacation; so i guess we need to do evisa before we leave for Mexico or after we get back.

1) a tourist visa is valid for use for 90 days from the day it's issued, and once you use it you'll receive 60 days in Thailand, even if your enter Thailand on the last day of validity of the visa.

So you can apply any time from 90 days before your trip until about 1 month before your trip. I would try applying much closer than that in the event you run into any issues.

2) The rule is you apply at the Thai embassy that serves where you physically are. There enforce this by looking at your plane ticket from where you say you are, to Thailand. Take that as you will.

3) you generally need to provide your ticket to enter Thailand and your ticket to exit Thailand. That is your travel booking.

You will need to upload your hotel reservation as well but only your first hotel.

If the application asks for a declaration there is a link to download it in the same panel that asks for it.

The day the visa is issued will be later than the application date - yes? If I apply 90 days ahead, i would hope the approval date would be a little later giving a cushion for any delays.

2) isn’t true for the USA. You need to apply at either the embassy or one of the consulates based on where you live. You need to show proof of your address for example a drivers license. So if you live in New York for example you can’t apply at the consulate in Los Angeles even if you are in California for a trip.

Being outside the US while applying is a different matter

Our residence and driver's license is South Dakota. Our plane tickets are from Richmond VA to LAX to Thailand. Do we have to pick a specific Thai consulate in the US to send it to?

@Leslie ********
nothing to send. Go to the evisa website and follow the instructions it will tell you where to ‘apply’ online based on where you live in the USA. It’s very easy.

Don’t think it has anything to with where your plane tickets leave from in a given country

Thanks! When you say apply at the Thai embassy... That is a pulldown selection and still all done online? When they ask for my location country would that just be my normal country where I live?

Your location country is where you are
