TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert your 90-day O retirement visa to a one-year extension, you need to visit your local immigration office to obtain the most current requirements. It's crucial to get the specific document list for your office, as general guidelines may not apply. You should apply for the extension when you have 45 days or less remaining on your current visa stamp, ensuring that your funds meet the necessary criteria for at least two months preceding your application. Remember, you're applying for an extension, not converting your visa.

that list is a GENERAL GUIDE not the list from the immigration office. Seeing as you don't have an OA visa you don't need insurance, seeing as you entered the country AFTER July 1st 2022 you didn't get a TM6.

You need to slog on out to Chaengwattana and go to section L-1 the first cubby on the right in that section (where it says Document Checking) and get the hand out listing the exact requirements of that office. There is no short cut, no "what do I need" answer that is going to get you around doing that. You run a HIGH risk of showing up to apply for your year extension without the correct documents if you don't do that..

Good Luck to it,

And as people said you're NOT converting anything, you needed a non-Immigrant type visa (you got the O) before you could apply for the year extension. You can apply in bangkok when you have 45 days or less left on your new 90 day stamp AND when your funds are in the account for 2 months from the date you apply

Attached is the "general" requirements list most immigration offices require you. But details are immigration office specific. You NEED to go to your local immigration office to get the latest handout of the requirements list for a 1-year extension based on being over 50 well before you really attempt to apply for an extension.

BTW, you are not "converting". You apply for a 1-year extension on your "permitted to say until stamp" from your initial visa.

Ellie, first of all --- thank you. Everything on that list was submitted (and approved) when I got the O visa in January. That's why I asking. All of it was already given to them at Changwattana.

Several things in the document don't make sense. For instance, one cannot establish the funds are "untouched 3 months after extension is granted" because "3 months" is well after the visa would have expired. And I was very specifically told by the immigration officer that health insurance is *not* required. Furthermore, no longer issue TM6 departure cards.

, As it is written, that list is for 1-year extension applications, NOT for in-country visa applications. You need to keep your funds in your bank account for three months after the 1-year extension is granted. Some immigration offices check it at some points. All immigration offices check if you keep your funds for three months or not at the next year's extension application. If they found you didn't, your extension is invalid as of the day you missed the requirements and you are at the risk to be overstaying since then. Health insurance is not required if you apply for an extension based on being over 50 from the Non-O visa, but it's required for those who apply for 1-year extensions based on being over 50 (same extension) from their Non-OA entries.

TM6 is temporally waived for travelers entering by air, but still enforced for people entering by land.

, You need to make a whole new set of documents when you apply for a 1-year extension again.
