got my DTV approved in Hanoi using soft-power medical route...

- had my money in savings accounts. Which the lady at the desk thought might be a problem. Because it didn't have any transactions going in and out etc. But I wrote a short note explaining there weren't any transactions because it was a savings account. And also printed out a screenshot from my bank's website showing that the funds were fully accessible (i.e. not a fixed savings account or anything) and that was fine

- for the medical stuff, I showed copies of the paperwork I'd received from the hospitals I'd been to. Proving previous appointments, an appointment booked for when I flew back, and general proof of ongoing care in Thailand

- the bank notes I got from the exchange place at chiang mai airport. i was a bit worried because they weren't "perfect". But they were flat and didn't have any tears or writing/marks etc and she accepted them no problem

- it took a couple of days longer than the 2-3 days advertised. And I sent an email chasing things up. I was going to go down there in person and see what was happening, but then I woke up and there was an approval email in my inbox

Everything else was just the standard paperwork i'd seen you needed: proof of flight to thailand, proof of address in Vietnam, proof of address in Thailand, photocopy of my passport (picture page and the vietnam visa page), and the application form itself

It's also worth mentioning to be aware of the lunch break times there. I booked my appointment for 1.30pm and turned up about 20 minutes early in case it was busy or something. But it was shut for lunch, so I just had to sit outside in the rain like a plonker

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience successfully obtaining a Digital Tourist Visa (DTV) in Hanoi using the soft-power medical route. They highlight important steps like providing sufficient proof of funding through savings accounts, presenting medical appointment documentation, and addressing the condition of banknotes. They discuss standard paperwork required, such as flight proof and residency documents, and mention the slight delay in processing, which extended beyond the expected timeframe. Several comments from others show varied experiences and additional questions about the visa process, including acceptable documentation and the nature of medical care.

What evidence did you provide to prove previous appointments in your home country?

I already got a letter from Bangkok Hospital saying they will treat me for the 5 years ongoing care, just wanna see what else I could add

i was in thailand before I flew to hanoi to get the visa sorted. So I just gave them a few of these slips they give you to show your insurance company. They list what the diagnosis is, the treatment plan, any medication etc

you should be okay with just the letter from Bangkok hospital showing an appointment and a treatment plan. But if you have some paperwork from doctors in your home country it can't hurt to give them some of that too

My tactic was to give them just a little bit, then if they asked for more I had a whole folder full of past appointment slips etc that I could have shown them

I got a future appointment slip too and an itemized invoice from the hospital plus that letter with the diagnosis and treatment plan. I'll send that through sounds like it should be enough

I did not need any proof of a flight to Thailand at all, I did listed our flight number on the DTV application, as for bank account information I did not have the funds in a checkings/savings account, money is in a term deposit/CD, and is "cashable", this was all accepted with no issues at the Thai consulate in Vancouver BC. I applied online (all are going to online soon), I could have been anywhere in the world and it would have been fine, the only thing is you need to be out of Thailand (obviously), I think it is best to apply from your home country

I didn’t know you can get a DTV for medical purposes? Is this a thing? I got an ongoing implant project would this be sufficient?

Hotel bookings are sufficient for proof of address in Vietnam and Thailand ?

What purpose served the bank notes you were mentioning? Thai baht ? How much?

Did you show a Thai bank account or from home?

Very interested in the route as it seems the easiest for me.

You should probably start by reading the website of any Thai Embassy, paying attention to the visa section.

yes, i believe so. If you can prove that you have appointments booked somewhere you should be fine

I only showed evidence of two appointments during the month before I applied, and an appointment booked for when I returned

i had a hotel booking for vietnam and a residential contract on a house in thailand. But pretty sure you can also just show a hotel booking in Thailand too

the bank notes thing was because I heard some places were very strict about the conditions of the notes. only accepting perfect condition. But now it seems vietnam will be switching to an evisa system. So you can just pay online without notes

I showed two UK bank accounts. Because I had transferred some money into a different account a few months ago before I knew about this visa. So I just highlighted the transfers that showed the money going out/in etc and that was fine

Also worth mentioning that if any of your documents are not in either english or thai you will need to get them translated and notorised, I believe

Would you happen to know if cosmetic dental work falls under the medical option?

Cheers

I can't say for sure, because it's not what I did. But I have read other people saying they got the visa with an appointment booked at a dentist
Kaia ******
Congrats! May I check where you booked the appointment? I've used the link on Thai embassy in Hanoi but it doesn't show any available times.

ahh... yes, i did book through this website. But it seems maybe they are now transitioning to the evisa system. So maybe you will have to apply online instead of in person like I did
