Enrolling in Chiang Mai School for Thai Language, Visa Questions

Hello, I want to learn how to speak Thai and planning to enroll somewhere in chiang mai school. Do they accept walk in enrollees? How about the documents they need. And how to change the visa? I want to study for 4 years.
Answer summary
User is interested in enrolling in a Thai language school in Chiang Mai for 4 years. They inquire about walk-in registrations, necessary documents, and visa changes. Comments suggest various schools, mention the limitation of the education visa to 2 years, and discuss school choice, costs, and cultural integration options. It is advised to contact the schools directly for accurate and up-to-date information regarding enrollment and visa processes.

Better to ask the schools directly ,,,they will give you an up to date information of what is expected from you and what the immigration requires …sorry but theres a lot of misinformation on here about length of study ,,,like previous aspects about the education visa when there was clamp downs regarding age of study ,period of time etcetc ,,so ask the schools directly …the schools at pantip plaza will answer all your questions directly .good luck

I don’t know about studying for four years, but I think TSL has a program with several months of language classes (maybe six?) and a whole bunch of cultural activities, that qualifies for the five-year DTV visa. So, that’d let you *stay* for five years (or, technically, multiple 180-day visits — you’d still have to leave and reenter from time to time), but I’m not sure any of the language schools have a four year curriculum for formal studying.

I think the program is 29K or 39K, plus an extra 10K for the visa.

Justin Bernold Wooow thank you so much for this information. Does the school process the DTV Visa? The language course are technically just short courses am I right with my understanding? 😊

AmbitiousGiraffe7165 I think they help prepare the documents, and then you submit everything to the relevant embassy yourself:

That's very ambitious. You may want to look around because in general none have 4 year courses for beginner Thai speakers. New Stamford and We learn Thai are good but message if you want other options for longer term stay in Chiang Mai.

Check out Chula University if you serious about a 4 year program. Costs are quite a bit so hope you got deep pockets

An Education Visa for studying Thai language at a language school is considered informal education. You can only do that for a maximum of 2 years.

Only a university can do more than that.

when was the 2 year rule introduced

But an informal ED visa with extensions can only last up to maximum 1-year. And then you have to get a new one. They won't keep issuing them to you based on this. And immigration will not allow you to continue getting extensions for something like that. They're not stupid. They know someone doesn't study a single topic for that long.

well actually I would suggest that the vast majority of students can only grasp the basics of Thai language in 2 years no matter how hard they study and also the university course material is basically the same material as the ones taught elsewhere ,,but anyway the question was when was the 2 year maximum introduced ,,not heresay but actual immigration policy
