I got rejected for the DTV visa at Mumbai consulate, India 😞 👇
Actually I didn't completely get rejected but received a 'tourist tr' visa. Basically a normal visa of 60 days but valid for 6 months. That's a rejection in my eyes.
Now I am just trying to figure out what could be the reason for my rejection? Should I call them and insist on sharing the reason? If anybody here can review my documents in DM and let me know your expert opinion, that would be really helpful!
I applied through the workcation route as a freelancer. Submitted bank statement for 6 months with 500k for 3 months, ITR, Contracts, Clients' business registrations, employment certificate, payment transaction history, basically everything they needed to approve.
From other's experience too, the mumbai consulate seems to be conservative and very conservative. They prolly don't trust the status of 'freelancer' for a DTV visa. They must be looking for the traditional job employed people. They even requested additional documents. I still can't think of a solid reason that they rejected me. Such a bummer, waste of time and money.
Now if there is anybody that can help review my documents pls let me know, so I don't get rejected again. Also which country/ embassy is the best to apply from in my case. Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user faced a visa rejection for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while applying through the Mumbai consulate, receiving a Tourist Visa (TR) instead. They provided extensive documentation including bank statements and contracts but suspect that the consulate's conservative stance on freelancers may have led to the rejection. The user is seeking advice on the possible reasons for rejection, how to appeal, and recommendations for applying from a different country.
So you got a METV? Not seen a post where anyone was given this instead of DTV except for Soft Power - never seen it for Workaytion. Strictly speaking, you are not allowed to work remotely on a TR visa of any kind, even remotely. Hope you do not have to ait fro the METv to expire before you can apply elsewhere - ask Mumbai Embassy to cancel it.
There are some posts from Tokyo Workcation applicants given 6mths. Japanese applicants not just visitors. One went to Cambodia to get approved after METV ended.
But I do not want to wait for the METV to get expired on its validity term. Can i utilize it for 90-120 days and then cancel it so i can re apply from another neighbouring country?
The Embassy issuing it needs to cancel it. However, it is known for agencies with connections to be able to facilitate this which I am sure there will be a fee for.
I even asked them for clarification on why not a correct visa was provided. They said we are not allowed to give any clarification and the decision is final.
Even I'm surprised despite submitting all the documents, i was rejected. So im going to share my plan with you below, please share your opinion on it 🙏:
I am planning to utilize the METV visa and travel thailand atleast 90-120 days. and then go to some neighbouring countries and then cancel the METV visa. I have already booked my flight ticket to Thailand, I'd prefer not to cancel it. So will I have any problem doing that? I have spent so much time and money trying to get this visa but eventually rejection with no clear reason :(
As I said above you will need to have the issuing Embassy cancel it. This came up recently. Certain agencies may be able to help as well. Hope it all works out for you.
my main concern is if they will cancel amidst the visa use. Can use it for 90-120 days and then cancel it? How long usually does it for them to cancel?
No idea how long it takes to cancel but you woukd need to be outcome of Thailand when they do I would have thought. If I was you speak to an agent in Thailand with immigration department contacts.
