Has anyone recently tried to apply for a DTV Visa from the Washington DC Consulate Website? I went through the entire process but at the end where the payment is supposed to be processed, the system will not accept my payment. I tried different cards and a different browser but still no luck.

I have tried calling them at 202-944-3600 and 202-684-8493 as well as emailing them at [visa@thaiembdc.org](mailto:visa@thaiembdc.org) but cannot reach anyone. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Answer summary
A user is struggling to make a payment for a DTV Visa through the Washington DC consulate's website, experiencing persistent payment issues despite multiple attempts with different cards and browsers. Other users suggest various solutions including contacting the bank to permit international transactions, trying different payment methods like Google Pay, and waiting for system issues to resolve. Some have shared personal experiences where they faced similar hurdles but eventually found success by contacting their banks or using specific techniques during the application process.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions I received. One of the suggestions was to call my bank, which ultimately, was able to provide the solution. It was a two-step process. My bank first had to contact VISA to allow an international transaction and then contact their own fraud department, which had blocked the transaction after VISA allowed it.

It took a while and required me speaking with several people in different departments, but the good news is the transaction finally went through and now the system shows the status as ‘Pending Document Check’.

Very kind of you to post the fix that worked for you here. I appreciate it!

Sorry you're stuck on that step, it's frustrating when a portal won't take payment. One thing worth trying is calling your card issuer to allow international online transactions and any extra authentication, then retrying in a fresh browser window. If the consulate still doesn't answer, it may be worth asking in this group who succeeded recently.

Sawadee, yes many people see same payment error on DC website these days. System often blocks if address or card is not US or if amount is high. Try use US debit card with US billing zip, clear cache and use Chrome, and try morning time Bangkok time when server is less busy.

If phone not answering that is normal for DC, they reply slow. Try email again with subject payment failed plus your passport number, and include screenshot. Some people pay via same account after two days and it works.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

Been a while, but when I had that problem I changed to Google Pay with the same credit card and it worked. I think they still take GPay

I guess I can now teach myself how to use Google Pay.

Try a different card. I had two that wouldn't work (same bank) but another bank's card went through fine. Something in the way it was transmitted to my bank card made them reject it. Maybe the way the address/zip code was input. When I contacted my bank they checked and just said it was rejected because the information didn't match.

Visa or master card, credit or debit, it says and requires online payment only. While you were trying to pay, there might have been a system error or network traffic overload. Not a bad idea to try again during the next working days.

This has happened before as many posts in the thread show, frequent problem especially on weekends. Trying again later is often best, the system usually sorts itself out after a few hrs.

Thanks. The scary thing is not being able to reach anyone by phone or email.
