Just wanted to share my experience and see whether anyone has successfully had a similar issue corrected by the Embassy.

Embassy: Jakarta

Category Applied For: DTV (Workcation / Remote Income)

Application Submitted: 24 May 2026

My application remained under the DTV category throughout the entire process.

After approximately 2 weeks, I received a request for additional documents:

* 3 months of bank statements showing funds above 500,000 THB

* Plan of Stay in Thailand

* Full copy of all passport pages

I provided:

* 3 months of bank statements well above the threshold

* Plan of Stay

* Marriott booking in Bangkok

* Full passport copy

The application then moved to Pending Approval.

Today, the visa was issued. However, when the visa was issued, the application category changed from DTV to:

Visa Type: Tourist TR

Multiple Entry

Valid until December 2026

I am confused because:

* I applied for a DTV

* I paid the DTV fee

* The application was processed as a DTV throughout the review process

* The category only changed upon issuance

My stay plan described my currently confirmed trip to Thailand, but my intention in applying for the DTV was for the flexibility to spend more time in Thailand over the coming years. I only included confirmed travel arrangements because I did not want to submit speculative future travel plans.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

More importantly, has anyone successfully contacted the Embassy and had the visa category corrected from Tourist TR to DTV after issuance?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The income structure was clarified with the Embassy before application. My well documented income was confirmed as acceptable for the DTV category.

Interestingly, the Embassy never questioned my income, assets or supporting documentation during the review process.

Anonymous participant Sounds like something in the material caused them to give you another Visa than you asked for? Income was the one thing you, the anonymous writer, wanted to keep untold. A guess is that "there's your problem!"

I applied in March for a DTV and was approved a ED. Emailed and said I think you gave me the wrong visa. They said it was up to the person handling the application what visa they saw fit to give me!!! Asked to cancel that visa immediately so I could reapply! They voided the visa but still left the application as unfinished on the portal. Contacted them 3 days ago to close the application so I can apply from Mexico again! I have heard nothing!!! The visa situation in Thailand is such a mess in my opinion and so many are just going to Vietnam or Bali instead.

It won't be corrected because there is no mistake. They looked at what you provided and decided you did not warrant a DTV. Once they decide you do not qualify for DTV they do not have to give you anything. As a complete courtesy some embassies will give you a 6 month tourist visa if they feel that meets your needs. They could of just rejected you and given you nothing. Take your six months and work on improving your next application.

I appreciate the perspective.

My only observation is that if an applicant can satisfy the published financial requirements, provide extensive supporting documentation, pay the DTV application fee, and still be expected to discover the decisive criteria through Facebook discussions afterwards, then perhaps the process is not as transparent as it could be.

In any case, I've decided to pursue other options rather than spend time trying to interpret embassy-specific expectations.

If I were you I’d message Siam Legal & see if they have any advice or guidance. Even though I did my own DTV from the U.S. they are a good source of information for all things Visa related. Good luck!

You have been issued a 6mth METV, it often happens when they feel there is not enough evidence to support a 5 year DTV. You need to give a detailed 5 year plan and how the DTV will be used for that tiime. You can apply again once your METV has ended. Others have got the DTV at the end of their TV. Good choices to apply with next time Laos, Manilla, or Vietnam.

Do you know whether there's any possibility of having a visa reclassified from a METV to a DTV after issuance by providing additional clarification or supporting documentation to the Embassy?

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has successfully gone through that process.

Anonymous participant NOT going to happen. The Thai Embassy considers that they have provided you the Thai Visa needed by issuing the METV vs outright denying the DTV visa application.

Anonymous participant I have never heard of a visa reclassified post issuance. . Many have received the same TV as you. Jakarta has got stricter with its' approval. You can stay around 8mths with that visa if you time your final entry correctly.

True. When i looked at applying with Japan Embassy it stated they will issue shorter term visas for the same purpose if they see fit. So, maybe these METVs are a little different in allowing the DTV purpose.

it seems crazy that they would issue or can issue METV for remote work when you are not allowed to do remote work, strictly speaking, on any tourist visa.

Anonymous participant Oh ok, that would be a reason for the TV, if you only gave your short term plan. Next time give a 5 year plan so they understand your need for 5 years. It will be useful if you give an update. At least you were not totally rejected. Enjoy the next 6-8mths in Thailand and reapply, you will be fine next time around.

I've contacted the Embassy for clarification and will see whether they come back with any explanation regarding the visa category issued.

From the feedback I've received so far, it seems possible that my travel plans may have been interpreted as supporting a shorter-term stay rather than the broader use case of a DTV. If that's the case, it's certainly a lesson learned for any future application.

I'll update the group if I receive a response from the Embassy, as it may be useful for others in a similar situation.
