What are the visa requirements for a Canadian traveling to Japan and Singapore with a Thai spouse?

Hi All. Looking for information and advice. My Thai wife and I as a Canadian spend 6 mos a year in Canada and 6 months in Thailand. In this coming October 2024, instead of flying direct to Bkk, we are thinking of: (i) flying to Japan and stay there maybe 2 weeks, (ii) fly from Japan to Singapore and stay there 4-5 days, (iii) fly from Singapore to Bkk/Udon.

Does anyone see a problem with this? I'm pretty sure Japan does not require a visa for Thai- not sure for me as a Canadian.

I do not know Singapore regs yet. I was in Singapore over 40 years ago, but never Japan.

Thanks very much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian expat and his Thai wife are planning to travel to Japan for two weeks and then to Singapore for 4-5 days before returning to Thailand. They seek confirmation on visa requirements for both countries. Responses indicate that neither Japan nor Singapore requires a visa for Thai nationals or Canadians. It is recommended that the traveler keep updated on entry requirements and ensure onward travel proof for Thailand immigration. Additionally, there are specific health declarations to be aware of for entering Singapore.

the question is not, if you need a visa. You don't need a visa for neither Japan, Singapore or Thailand. However the question rather is - will the airline let you board the flight, if you have no onward travel proof out of Thailand within the period you will get stamped in?

Yes Andreas I have thought about that and will get flights to and return flights out of Thailand. Thanks. A lot of upfront money for flights.

By asking 2 questions I got the answer to yours is one minute or thereabouts and I already knew the answers. 'Do Canadians need a visa for Japan/ Do Canadians need a visa for Singapore? the answer for both is no and the same applies for Thais. Japan is expensive and not worth 3 or 4 days let alone 2 weeks. Universal Studios in Singapore are wonderful. ANA are the best for travel. way better than AC.

Thanks for your great response. I can afford 2 months or two weeks, so if we can work it all on we will. We have been on ANA before and will look to it Thanks. I am not an AC fan at all. I spent some time in Singapore in 1981and am really looking forward to it. I hadn't heard about Universal Studios, but will put it in the list. Way back when I came into Singapore by train- -started in Bangkok.

The good Train? Universal is great, the kids thought it was marvelous and I was more than impressed well worth the visit. Go there using the the cable car to Sentosa and back in a taxi. it really is worth it and it can only have improved. If either of you smoke have them in your suitcase as you can't take them in duty free. Good food and spotless, Gum is frowned upon.

Thanks. No we don't smoke..Yes I remember how clean and anal was compared to HK. Spitting was not allowed. I enjoyed Singapore a lot. Looking forward to it. Again we'll take a look at Universal. I have no idea about Sentosa, but will look at this too.

All the best with your plan Christopher. Right now she has the PRC, but we are looking at the Citi⁵zenship. At 60, it is easy to get, but now, as she is only in ther 40's, she will have to study for an exam (xiuierd de boisas well as pass the language test

Singapore had requirements to fill out health information online for pre approval. It is not difficult but is a pain in the butt. The requirement may have ended, but was there last November. You don’t need approval to board the plane, only to get through immigration. You can fill the form on your smart phone and get immediate approval.

Probably easier for your wife to enter on her Canadian passport as they seem to assume all Thai women are there to work illegal. We have been there several times, Thai passport holders go through a separate lane, and they always give my wife a hard time. On her Aussie passport she walks straight through with me.

that’s great, my partner and I avoid Canada nowadays and vastly prefer 6-7 months or more on Samui a few months of travel and a couple of months in Mexico. Just a much happier place to be and far better weather and food. If one needs a job, Canada is quite good (although USA pays better and taxes less), but definitely easy money in both.

Singapore and Japan are both fun destinations and interesting places. Can even take the ferry over to Bintan island Indonesia from Singapore, it’s great for a few day getaway. Enjoy

Cheers Todd. I have backpacked Mexico and Central America 3 times from Mexicali south, once sailing with 3 friends on a boat from Squamish to California and then to Zihuatanejo. I've bused as far south as the Beagke Channnel and Tierra del Fuego. I live Mexico and Panama especially and if I hadn't met my to-be wife here I would have retired there, probably Panama, but perhaps Mexico. No job for me. I've been retired 16 years ago since when I turned 60. I am looking forward to both Singapore and Japan..Have you been to both? I've spent a fair bit of time exploring Indonesia including a number of the islands-I think I am done there, but you never know. Any must sees in Japan?

I understand this makes you either a liar or just another clueless Canadian voter with little or no education. The problem for that nation is that the best and brightest have left, leaving only the dimwits and morons. But luckily they are replacing us with mass Punjabi and Chinese immigrationl Great work Jeff.

And you're one of the best and brightest right? You're just an ungrateful moron who spits on the country that gave him so much. Like I said, true Canadians are happy whenever mouthpieces like you decide to leave. Good riddance.

and like i said, the problem for the nation is simpletons like you who cant afford to leave, and are not desirable to 194 other nations are the ones who stay. Canada unfortunately is stuck with the dregs. As you capably demonstrate. It's like an IQ test, who can't get out, stay and enjoy the misery of each other's company. Sounds like fun. Get to work on your Mandarin 🤣🤣

Shouldn't be any issues. Neither Japan nor Singapore requires a visa for Thai people. Just make sure you are up to date on entry requirements for anywhere you are traveling to.
