Hello group, seemsike many knowledgeable people here.

Help me clarify if possible!!!

1. Can Canadians fly out to Thailand?

2. Do you have to have 100,000$ health insurance policy?

3. Do you have to stay for minimum of 3 months?

My situation:

Came back to Canada in January 2020 due to growing issues been talked about.

Have my condo there, and have still much of my important things in my condo, which I want to get.

All I want is to travel for about a month, month and a half total, grab my shit, see some people come back to canada....possible?????

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian is seeking clarification on their ability to travel to Thailand, specifically about flight availability, health insurance requirements, and minimum stay duration. Responses suggest that while technically possible, entry is heavily restricted based on the situation in Canada, with many expressing doubts about getting approval due to Canada being classified as a medium risk country. Concerns about insurance coverage of $100,000 and quarantine rules upon arrival were also discussed, as well as the complications in owning property in Thailand.

Hey Jeff, I've emailed the Thai Consulate in Ottawa a couple of times and they still haven't responded. Their website is also not updated with the lasted info so 🤷‍♂️

You want to come for a month but have to quarantine for 16 days. I have 2 unattended houses in Koh Samui so I get the distress

If you have money it's easy. Pay an agency 10k usd and they organise everything for you

ANYONE can fly to Thailand (there's a "but" coming) ... BUT ... the types of visa available are limited and you have to fit strictly defined criteria and jump through endless hoops. Contact the embassy in your country.
Stewie *****
Do you own the condo (in your name)?
Fred *********
@Stewie ****
yes if you own the condo you can go after jumping thru the hoops

@Stewie ****
would that make a difference?

@Jeff *******
Yes. They recently announced that condo owners can enter. But they added ridiculous financial requirements:

1. 500K baht in your home country account for six months

2. 3m in a Thai bank

Find a local friend to pack up your stuff and plan to come after a year. At best you'll have do a whole bunch of stuff then get here, then quarantine, then do as you planned. My buddy's wife and 2 kids quarantine 2 weeks - 100,000 baht. From what I understand that wasn't the cheapest but more near the lower end. Kids cost more so no idea how much it would cost for you. How much is your stuff worth.

Thanks for the info let's hope a vaccine arrives soon

-- From what I understand first week - no leaving the room - at all. Nothing - Jail with a view.

Week two my friends (two different people) were able leave the room a little bit for exercise. Like an hour once or twice a day.

It seems to me Thai people culturally disregard some rules and take very serious other rules. This is definitely one of their serious rules.

Were they able to leave their room 1 km radius or stay in the room thank you

Unless you are in one of the approved groups, Canada is on the list as a medium risk country, so we are not yet allowed to go on the STV (the only current way a 'tourist' can go). So it looks like it may not be possible for a while yet.

@Ryan *******
where can I find the list of countries and their risk level. I can’t find it. Could you point me in the right direction please 🙏
Ryan ********
@Tr***
I couldn’t find it either. This is just what the consulate in Vancouver Canada told me the other day.

on WDC Royal Thai Embassy page

Currently no retirement visas are issued, not even in America. Furthermore, America is listed in Thailand as a high risk country.

Are you one of the following:-

1) Married to a Thai?

2) Have half Thai kid?

3) Have a job in Thailand?

4) Are over 50?

5) Have stacks of money?

If you answered YES to any of those, you have an opportunity to get the necessary approval to enter Thailand.

@Bobby *******
how much money has to be presented?
Todd *********
@Je**
you have to purchase the Thai Elite Visa for 500k baht.
Bobby ********
@Jeff *******
. If you have stacks of dosh the Elite Visa is now accepted for COE application. Looking at 500,000 Baht for the lowest level through to 2m Baht for top of the range.

COE application? Ok im listening..i can present those amounts of money...but thats all i can present out of the list u indicated
Bobby ********
@Jeff *******
. It's not "presenting" those amounts. It's handing it over. That's the price of the visa. You won't see the money again, but you can get up to ten years of visa, and they throw in free limousine to/from the airport, and priority through immigration! Many people think it's an overpriced luxury, but for those who have the spare dosh it seems to work, especially if there are no other avenues open.
