For a Non-O visa, does the money need to be in the bank for 2 months, and when should I go to immigration? One day after 2 months?🙏

Thanks everyone ❤️ (marriage visa)
Answer summary
For a Non-O visa in Thailand (specifically for marriage), it is necessary to have 400,000 THB in your bank account for at least 2 months before applying for an extension of stay. However, when initially obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa, there is no requirement for funds to be in the bank for any set period. Applications to immigration for the extension can happen only after this 2-month period is fulfilled.

Go to the immigration website and read it for yourself. If that's too hard for you go through an agent.

*** The best way is to show up in Thailand on a “90-days single entry Non-Imm-O Family Visa”. It will get you stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. Within this 90-days period, you have plenty of time to arrange for the application to the “1-year extension of temporary stay permit”.

The important fact is, that entering on this visa-type enables you to get a Thai bank account opened.

If you enter on a tourist visa or visa-exempt, you cannot get a Thai bank account opened any more since February 2025.

In order to apply for the “90-days single entry Non-Imm-O Family Visa” through the online E-visa system at the Royal Thai Embassy of your home country, you can

EITHER

use proof of income of a monthly minimum of 40.000.- THB equivalent, by using your original income documentation,

OR

you can use a deposit of a minimum of 400,000 THB equivalent in your home country currency, or on your home bank account, or on your Thai bank account (if you got one), or just anywhere in the World – as long as the account is in your sole name.

Most Thai embassies will require 3 months of account statements for the visa application. You need to check the website of the embassy you will use for the exact info.

*** For the application inside Thailand to the “1-year extension of the stay permit based on being married to a Thai Wife”, the financial proof will be slightly different. On Immigration inside Thailand, you cannot use any original income documents from your home country.

If you are a citizen of a country whose embassy in Bangkok does not issue a certified “income affidavit” any more (which are the embassies of USA, Canada, UK, Norway, Sweden and Australia) you would need the minimum of 400,000 THB deposit.

If your embassy still issues a certified affidavit of income, you can use it for the financial proof. You would need a certified monthly income or pension of a minimum of 40,000 THB.

For British, Canadian, Norwegian, Australian, Swedish and U.S. citizens, there is no other way around than depositing a minimum of 400,000 THB in your Thai bank account.

*** After been issued the 1-year extension of stay, you can theoretically take your 400,000 THB out of your bank account.

There is a fee of 1900 THB for the application to a 1-year extension, and you can theoretically do it all by yourself. You are free to accept the help of an agent for the simplified legal service.

On the day of application to the 1-year extension, the 400,000 THB must have “seasoned” in your account for two months, and this has to be confirmed with the “bank letter of guarantee” (in Thai: rab roong thanakan), an ATM receipt of a small withdrawal, and an updated bankbook.

After been issued the “1-year Extension of the Stay Permit based on Being Married to a Thai Wife, you can take the deposit out of the account.

Yet before the application to the next “1-year Extension of Stay”, a minimum of 400,000 THB must again have seasoned for two months.

On the day you get issued the “1-year extension of stay permit”, you should buy a re-entry permit.

A re-entry permit will keep your 1-year stay permit alive and valid in case you want to travel around and exit Thailand before the expiry of the extension.

A single re-entry permit is 1000 THB on Immigration. A multi re-entry is 3800 THB.

On a multi re-entry permit stamped, you can exit and re-enter as many times as you wish during the whole 1-year stay permit period.

Good Luck with your application.

Tam Ara there is nothing such as a "non-o part". You en ter Thailand on the 90-days Non-O Visa and get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. The Non-O Visa becomes invalid upon entry. Then up from 30 days before the expiry of the 90-days stay permit, as soon as your minimum of 800,000 THB have been sitting in your Thai bank account for a minimum of 2 months, you can apply for the "1-year Extension of the Stay Permit". . . . In order to reach the timeline of 2 months for the deposit, you must get a Thai bank account opened ASAP right after you entered

Paul McClintock “Extension NON-O to Retirement Visa”

They couldn’t use more inappropiate wording.😄

The 90-days Non-O Visa is (!) the actual Retirement Visa.

When you apply for the 1-year extension, you do not have a Non-O Visa anymore. That Non-O visa has already become invalid when you entered Thailand on it.

The 1-year Extension is NOT a “retirement visa”.

It isn’t even a visa at all.

It is just an extended STAY PERMIT

Don't go before the 60, they are strict. You'll also need (from my notes)

Make sure you have:

- Passport + copies of relevant pages

- TM.7 form

- Passport photo

- TM30 receipt

- Marriage certificate/registration documents (Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3)

- Your spouse's ID card and house registration copies

- Lease agreement for the condo

- Landlords proof of ownership (yes, I was asked for this)

- Property Deed (yes, I was asked for this)

- Photos of you and your spouse together at the residence

- Bank book/passbook

- Bank letter confirming the balance (typically obtained the same day as the application)

- Copies of all bank book pages

- 1,900 THB application fee

If you're renting a condo, make sure:

- The address on your TM30 matches the condo address.

- The address you put on the TM.7 matches that same address.

A simple map showing how to get from a major road, landmark, BTS/MRT station, or nearby identifiable location to your condo.

A Google Maps printout with the condo pinned.

The condo address in Thai (if available).

Photos of you and your spouse:- Outside the building

- At the unit door (if practical)

- Inside the condo

Why bring your spouse?

Immigration may want to:

- Verify the marriage documents.

- Have your spouse sign documents or copies.

- Ask a few basic questions.

- Confirm residence details.

Sometimes they won't speak to your spouse at all. Other times they will. It's much easier if they're already there.

Documents your spouse should bring

Originals:

- Thai ID card

- House registration (Tabien Baan)

Copies (signed):

- ID card

- House registration

- Marriage documents (Kor Ror 2 / Kor Ror 3)

For a 90 day Non-O visa the funds don't have to be in the bank for any length of time. For an extension of stay based on a Non-O visa then 2 months and you can apply once you have met that requirement

in addition to the bank account and TM30 what else will one need when going to immigration for the one year extension? I have my visa and will be hopefully opening an account at Kasikorn in Bangkok when I arrive next week. I think I also need a Thai phone plan but am not sure. My visa will expire Jan 12 so when should I go to immigration? Thanks in advance!

Eric Moser Your non o visa is valid for three months to use.

Once in the country it will get stamped by immigration for 90 days then the clock starts ticking.

I did my Kbank account within a week of arriving in Chiang Mai to make sure I was slightly over the two months for the money to season.

I also opened two accounts so one for the seasoned money and the other to do the

Thai baht to pay my bills.

I find this way easier to manage things.

You'll need a residence certificate from immigration and a Thai SIM registered against your passport to open a bank account. While you're at immigration pick up the hand out of requirements for the 12 month extension of stay

I have to go to immigration before going to the bank? I started the process 2 years ago but couldn't complete it. Kasikorn at the time said I just needed a signed lease agreement and my visa to open the account. Thanks for your help.

Eric Moser Just go to the immigration office relevant to where you are staying and ask for a list of required documents, as not all offices operate the same.

Eric Moser look on the Thai immigration website it clearly explains what is required for an extension.
Graham ******

Eric Moser You go to Immigration when your funds have seasoned for two months, nothing to do with when your visa expires because, at that point, it is finished, used and you have a 90 day permitted to stay stamp. You can apply for your extension with 30 days or less (45 in some places) remaining on your permitted to stay stamp.
