Hello Group,

Quick question please. I am here on a 90 day Non O visa, have just opened a bank account etc. am I correct that when I apply to extend my visa to 12 months, I simply go to immigration before expiration date and apply to extend it. Clearly I need all of my documents, proof of bank account and 800,000 etc to complete that process ? I had read in one post that you needed to go there and apply 1 month before hand.

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend a 90-day Non O visa to a 12-month extension, you must go to immigration before your current visa expires, providing all necessary documents, including proof of funds in a bank account (800,000 baht should be maintained for a specific period, typically 2 to 4 months depending on the bank). While you can technically apply as late as the last day of your visa validity, it is advisable to do so well before, ideally within 30 to 45 days of expiration. The type of Non O visa (either retirement or marriage) may affect the specific requirements.

I just opened my bank account at Bangkok Bank. I originally handed in all the paperwork 3 weeks earlier and chased them for an appointment to go back once head office had approved it. It then took 2 hours of paper filling, questions answering and computer data entry before walking out of the bank. I also had to deposit the 800,000 baht. And yes they want the money in the account for 4 months.

They don’t make it easy

it's not like it was. They can't just put the money in, get letter, and take it out. They banks won't do it anymore.

I use Bangkok Bank and they are now requiring a separate account for the 800,000. It either has to be in for 4 months or it's frozen for 4 months inorder to get the letter for immigration . Personally not a big deal, but some people are getting stressed

I'm assuming you are going to apply for an extension based on retirement.. but your original thread did not actually say this.. the process is slightly different if it's based on marriage.. so it's pretty essential to specify the type of non-o when seeking advice in the forumπŸ˜‰

Hello, and if i apply for and extension based on marriage, what are the requirements ? Thanks.

You need to check with the immigration office in your location.. or the location where you will be residing if you are not already in Thailand.. since it can vary in terms of the finer detail πŸ‘

You can apply up until the last day your visa entry stamp is valid. But that's definitely not recommended.

At most offices you can apply for retirement extension when you have 30 days or less left, and some even allow when you have 45 days or less left. The extension will be added to the end of your existing stamp, so there's no reason to wait until the last minute.

You just need to make sure that your 800,000 baht has been in your account for 2 full months already when you apply for your first extension.

The money needs to be in the account for 2 months before you can apply.

every immigration office is different (Samui is an absolute nightmare). I would recommend you to go to your local Immigration office asap and get a list of their requirements. That way, you will know exactly which documents πŸ“ƒ you will need to bring, as well as the timelines for that particular office.

I hope this helps πŸ˜ƒ

you already have the visa, so you won't be getting a new visa. For retirement extensions, those are usually processed same day. Some offices like Pattaya require you to come back the next day to pick up your passport.
