TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to purchase a vehicle on an education visa in Thailand. However, if you do not have a work permit, you will need to obtain a residence certificate from the immigration office. In Bangkok, obtaining a residence certificate may require completing a 90-day report, which typically necessitates being on a long-term visa. Alternatively, you may seek assistance from your embassy, although their willingness to issue a residence certificate may vary. To register the vehicle in your name, you'll need both your passport and the residence certificate to start the vehicle registration process known as the 'Green Book'.

If you want to register it on your name you need passport and residence certificate to start the „Green Book“.

Depends where abouts in the country. Bangkok (and possibly other immigration offices) won’t issue a residence certificate unless you’ve completed one 90 day report - which you can’t do unless you’re on a long term visa.

If you’re in Bangkok you can ask your embassy for one - which they may or may not provide.

I bought in the meantime 4 motorbikes in Pattaya, 2 on visa exemption and 2 on Non/O visa and had never problems to get the residence cert. A nice lady in a motorbike rental shop always doing for me the yearly tax/insurance cert. as well as provide me with residence certificates for all reasons. Cost me just 300 Baht service charge.

I’m in Phuket on an education Visa. Been here just short of 60 days so far. I will try to get the paperwork with my visa agent after 90 days, thanks! You are a wealth of knowledge, I’ve learned a lot just following this page.

Phuket will issue the residency certificate on any visa type. 300 baht I think is the charge.

Possible on any visa. If you don't have a work permit, you would need to get a residence certificate from the immigration office, though.
