TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon finishing a 6-month Muay Thai training while on a DTV visa, you can initially stay in Thailand for 180 days. Although your visa is valid for 5 years, extending your stay beyond the initial period may be challenging, as extensions are typically only granted under strict conditions. Importantly, there are currently no ongoing financial requirements to maintain the 500,000 baht balance after the visa is issued, unless you seek an extension.

It's funny how Thailand failed to realize that people want to pay money to stay in Thailand longer time. But they don't want to pay too much money. So why don't they make it a "subscription". As long as you pay you can stay one more month...

I think in principle that readily could charge a few hundred US dollar per year... The big problem is all the paperwork. So make it a 6 months extension in the country for cash, if you are in "good standing".

As long as you don’t extend in country there is no ongoing requirement to maintain the financials or soft power classes.

not currently BUT under discussion with the government now as so many are not attending classes, so they going to amend the rules

Hearsay is a nicer word than what I would have used!

Everything is utter BS and speculation until it isn’t.

Still waiting for that big bike motorcycle license to come into law…

With a DTV you can stay in the country for 180 days. In theory you could get one extension for another 180 days but that’s incredibly hard to do.

The visa is valid for 5 years regardless that your course may only be for 6 months.

Currently there is no requirement to keep the 500k once the visa is issued - other than if you were trying for an extension.

how is one extension for 180 days hard to do?

just border bounce it. Cheap flight to viet or near by country and back. Show them how important you are book a flight, stay for a couple days enjoy it come back.

Because immigration really really don’t want to do it. There have been some very few successful extensions but I’d say 99% of holders just bounce out and back.

Ok thank you! I was going to extend in 2 weeks but now I'm thinking I'll get a flight to somewhere for 2 nights :)

and they just bounce every 180 days for 5 years? Am I understanding correctly?

se podría hacer esto?

yes, but it doesn't need to be 180 days. Every time you exit Thailand, after staying here for whether a few days, a few weeks, one month or five months, you get 180 days upon each entry.
